Re: Hard drive space to allocate problems!

Now my information about storage was updated, but now the processor information is wrong!

It says the recommended is a Pentium 4 1.5 Ghz, and mine is Pentium 4 1.7 Ghz! Is superior, but it says it's below (with just 82). Any ideas?

Re: Hard drive space to allocate problems!

I am another victim of the infamous .98GB default. I've upped it to 10GB but it remains to be seen whether this has any practical effect other than improving one's personal rating. Maybe the .98GB represents the optimum/maximum the program can use (at least for the proteome project).
As per previous, a FAQ would seem appropriate.

cool Re: Hard drive space to allocate problems!

The current project uses less than 100m of space; just set it as high as possible and it'll get you more points. I'm sure the HDD setting is for future projects, really complex calculations might need GB's of storage.

As for the CPU score issue, I think it's the actual CPU time that the WCG program gets to use; so if you use a program that takes a lot of processing (a game for example), then the score will go down.

Re: Hard drive space to allocate problems!

The HD space is correct

But the thing you propose of the cpu score not.
When a wu finishes the program runs a small benchmark and then determines the speed of your processor. When you are working on your computer while benchmarking and doing a cpu intensive program you'll get a very low score as the bencmark too runs at low process priority. So if you can make sure you are doing nothing on your pc while it says 'Preparing result to send to server'.

that may be because you use a intel Celeron at 1.7 and the test system uses a pure intel P4 processor with much more L2 cache than the latter

cool Re: Hard drive space to allocate problems!

If you read the section titled CPU Power on http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/join_now/points_system.html it says that the diagnostic test is run 'periodically'. If something else is running at that time, the score for CPU Power will drop since the diagnostic test runs at lowest priority. However, the next time it should pop back up. Over time it should give a realistic approximation of how much CPU Power is available for the Grid Agent.

Well, they say periodically but i really only tests on the end of a workunit. I've tried that out. I've let another DC project run on my pc together with WCG. They both got 50% of the cpu. On the end of the wu, i closed down the other project and look, my cpu score didn't drop. But when i'm gaming when a wu finishes my cpu score drops about 60-90 points.
