Several times I have reache more than 50% complete on a Task but to power problems my PC crashed.
Everytime I restart the program a new is started at 0%, does this mean that the 50% or so from the previous task has been lost, waisted time? Obviously this is a bit annoying if the task is completley waisted and i dont get the points, is this normal? Thanks, SlySy[UK] |

It's 'normal' that the program restarts the downloaded part when the program crashes. It's not normal that your computer crashes.
Maybe an automatic save option every 10% would be a good idea in the next version of the client? |

I agree with the first 2 comments, but is it normal that no credits are given for the total of the completed (%) of the task?
Thnx SlySy[UK] |

Having browsed the forum for some time, i have now noticed that my points have been updated, 406 and the problem with incorrect display of storage device allocation has also been updated.
I can only presume that this has taken place after a server update? My advice I think is have patience and let it take its course. |

Thnx SlySy[UK] What I meant with my last comment was that saving your progress happens locally. It should just be there to prevent major crunch-time loss if the application crashes. |

Thanks, SlySy[UK] The application does a checkpoint (saves state) every time we bump up the percent complete. So if you have, say 29.4% complete and exit the agent. When you restart, it will resume from 29.4%. While I can't say for sure, what's probably happening is that one or more of the state files is corrupted due to the crash. In this case, when the agent restarts, it detects they are corrupted and wipes them out, thus you'll start from the beginning again. This is done to ensure pristine results. This assumes, of course, that your computer is indeed crashing or blue screening. If your computer is not crashing, please post some additional details. - Rick Alther World Community Grid Application Developer

I just had something similar happent his morning, I was just over 54% complete, this was showing on the screen saver, the box was moving and the graphic picture was unfolding as usual, however, after I entered my PC the time was brought down to an hour of computing time and was now 0% complete. My computer did not crash or blue screen. I exited the program and restarted it, now the time was showing 30 minutes of computing time and 0% complete. I've just lost 54% of the computing and much wasted PC time for no results.
----------------------------------------Indeed I know WCG saves everytime you exit the program and restarts where you left off, but I want to know what happend to this 54% of the project? If it's corrupted than it should automatically be sent back to WCG and a new one downloaded. Seti has been doing this for years because what's the sense of computing a corrupted file, Seti fixes the file and sends it to someone else later on. ![]() |

Okay, well this issue has just gotten more interesting. Now everytime I shut down the task and restart it, my CPU time goes back to 0, with 0% results and no CPU time added to my total.
----------------------------------------It seems it also happend by just minimizing the window to the tray... What's going on? ![]() |

If your pc is crashing then your system is probably unstable. System builders and overclockers use programs such as this to test the stability of their systems. Once you reach a certain heat threshold on the chip things "go awry" and typically the system will crash, or fail to execute programs correctly. No real damage done, generally, but you will shorten the life expectancy of the cpu if it's overheating. You might want to invest in a new cooling fan, or run the program less.
