Seems that WCG has taken over my computer. When I am browsing the mail or on the internet, the program will freeze and respond like molasses in January. In win. task mgr, wcg is running, and the priority is listed as low. My computer is idle for long periods of time and let the program do it's thing. When I wish to use the computer though,it would be nice to go through my e-mail without having to wait while wcg works on its problem. It happens in the middle of reading my mail, the computer stops responding to me and is working on a problem. That gets old after it happens daily. Seems I must suspend the working program to get my computer back, is that the way this works? Maybe time to get rid of this program, I don't mind turning over my computer when I'm not using it, but to take control when I'm in the middle of using it is asking an awful lot.

That is not how WCG is suppose to work at all. Because the tasks are running at low priority anything you do should take first place ... always. That being said, I would like to ask if you have changed any of the settings in your "Device Profile" that may be effecting your ability to use your own PC. The specific setting I am thinking of is how much memory it has been given permission to use (you can control this).
----------------------------------------There are 2 place where it is possible to change this setting, either on the website (http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/ms/device/viewDevices.do) and then click on the Profile listed next to your PC) or you can go through BOINC Manager directly. Please keep in mind that if you use the settings in BOINC Manager it will always override settings on the website. To stop using the BM settings you can click the clear button. So ... on to the setting ... about half way down the webpage there is a section called "Memory Usage". I would suggest that you try making all of these settings lower to see if that helps. ![]() [Edit 2 times, last edit by mecole at Dec 7, 2011 7:46:47 PM] |

squeeze127,
Can you plz check in Task Manager if boinctray.exe is running. It needs to else BOINC on windows cant detect if mouse or keyboard is being used. Also, set the Activity menu to "Run based on preferences" and untick the box "While Computer is in use" in the preferences, processor tab. If both these conditions are met, BOINC will pause when u are using it. --//-- |
