Be careful, if the host is running Windows, it could be a problem over 48 threads.
----------------------------------------Some months ago, I read an article about this issue. Windows is still not ready for massive parallel CPU architecture. Cheers, Yves |

In 1969 I took an oath to defend and protect the U S Constitution against all enemies, both foreign and Domestic. There was no expiration date.

Maybe use virtual machines (VirtualBox and such)? How much RAM does that baby have?

Occasionally overlooked: BIOS settings. I'm also waiting for the specs of that machine, and next see if I have to place some bets to the lottery!

It is a 4 processor 8 core with 128GB running Windows 2008 R2 that will probably move to a virtualiser very soon.

jpvanpe,
Somehow when I sampled the setting lines in previous previous post **, I typed 32 but it would have to be 64 for the processor field in the device profile. The override <ncpus>64</ncpus> in the cc_config.xml, forces hand as per Ingleside. Will draft a FAQ on this as it's about half dozen times this has come up. Let us know if it works. Normally the message log of BOINC at startup prints how many cores/processor threads are recognized. At 64 I'd not try CEP2 exclusive ;-) --//-- ** corrected original post too, just in case there's puzzlement. |

Hi SekeRob,
----------------------------------------The machine is back to work for holiday season. Your: <ncpus>64</ncpus> in the cc_config.xml is working fine. 64 threads @ 2.27GHz for 10 days should give a boost to my ranking. Hopefully, I'll get the 70 years for HCC before the project get dry Thanks and merry Christmas. [Edit 1 times, last edit by jpvanpe at Dec 23, 2011 2:13:27 PM] |
