Re: Looking for survivors to join Team "The survivors"

There has to be a business reason for MS to give a free upgrade.
I believe it is because they want to force everyone to buy OS and software on a subscription basis.
Its like the wireless companies selling blocks of minutes/data you don't need.
The cloud has no appeal for me, it is my desire to control my information, not put it on a server in a galaxy far away.

My LG G3 phone has failed again, but there is something called a contract that prevents me from changing.
It appears the G3 has a known problem, it flickers and then the screen goes dark.
When it failed I did a screen capture and to my surprise the capture was not a dark screen, but a working screen.
This is the 3rd time it has failed.
The third time it has been returned for repair.
However, I do have 5 Androids crunching.

I have 3 desktops and a laptop crunching, but have cut back to daytime only.
My power bills are around $500 a month.
If they release a GPU project I may go back to 24/365 crunching on two desktops with GPUs.

I looked at the team results; we have 40% participation.
Nothing wrong with that, but it appears as though we have 10 members active, which we don't.
Team points are nearing 1 Billion, which is quite good.
I never communicated with the founder of the group "hsuk", but believe they would be amazed at today's numbers.

Crunching on ......

Re: Looking for survivors to join Team "The survivors"

I have sinned.

In a moment of weakness, i installed Windows 10 on my old Gateway Pentium machine. It went well.

But so help me, I don't know what happened, but then there was this Lenovo laptop sitting there, and....well, you guessed it.

[SOB]

And then i upgraded 2 more pc's to Windows 10.

Help me, Obi Wan Kenobi. I can't stop.

I'm so ashamed. crying

Re: Looking for survivors to join Team "The survivors"

grumpy, you will probably have to pay penance somehow.

The only upgrade problem I am aware of is driver signing in W10 is expensive and TThrottle does not have the loot to buy in.

If you are running only Intel processors you don't need TThrottle.

W7 support is good until 1/14/2020 but the pressure will be intense to upgrade free.

Let us know if you find any problems.

I know this is crazy but you can buy MS Office 2016 for under $40, the complete PLUS version with everything.

I am considering buying MS Office 2016 because 2007 won't be supported much longer.

Re: Looking for survivors to join Team "The survivors"

Nasher - totally agree with you to not upgrade to w10 until you need it (or want it).

I haven't seen enough difference to warrant the upheaval.

(Still haven't upgraded my main cruncher, it works just fine, and i know my video editor, and everything else works just fine on w7.)

These are 2 good utilities to prevent w10 from taking over :

GWX Control panel http://ultimateoutsider.com/downloads/
and
Never 10 https://www.grc.com/never10.htm

I've used GWX and it works well.
Gibson Research has been around a long time, some quality utilities.

Lets hope they can fix CEP2 some time soon. This project seems to have gone into the crapper. sad

Re: Looking for survivors to join Team "The survivors"

Don't get too close to the screen when you read this. I picked up something Tuesday, very contagious, sore throat, coughing, runny nose. etc...

I upgraded because it is a free upgrade for one year only.

I can't see paying for something I don't need.

MS Office I do use; and like cable TV why pay subscriptions?

Office 365 Home is $99.99 a year.

It can be loaded on 5 PCs and 5 Androids.

It works out to $9.99 a device per year

I know that they will discontinue support for Office 2007.

So I bit a bullet and upgraded.

Not impressed with this rearrangement.

Outlook complains that it can't verify the AT&T mail server. Probably has some redirection server(s) not listed on the certificate.

And, W10 removes the Recovery Partition.

Instead you can create a recovery USB thumb drive.

Office Depot had San Disk 16GB drives on sale, a pack of 3 for under $18.

I don't want apps on my desktop PC so I set it up as close to W7 as I can get it.

The themes in Office 365 are limited, and not one is near what I want.

Going to have to build my own themes or get over my dissatisfaction.

Who runs this complaint department forum? They never address my complaints.
