Re: "The survivors"

FYI
Did you know that clicking BOINC Manager's Project-tab option-button "No new tasks" will make WUs report right after the upload completes?
That is to make sure that any completed tasks are reported before you take the computer down.
BOINC does not know when you plan to turn the PC on again so rather than take a chance of missing a due date each upload is reported.
Don't abuse this, please!
lm, It's hard to keep a secret in the forum; but I will try.

Re: "The survivors"

The survivors are presently ranked at 352, which is a very good number.
The number following the team name in my signature is the current ranking.

Re: "The survivors"

FYI
You can change the number of days of stats displayed on BOINC Manager Statistics from the default 30 to 90 by adding this line to your cc_config.xml file in the options section:
<save_stats_days>90</save_stats_days>
Save the file.
On BOINC Manager Advanced tab click "Read config file"
The stats will be saved each day until it totals 90 days.
If you are presently set at 30 days it will take 60 days before you see the full 90 days.

Re: "The survivors"

One of the PCs had a message in the event log that it had reached its daily quota of 11 tasks.
???????
Looked up the message and read a few forum replies.
One person suggested that a project reset would fix it.
Now the server won't communicate.
Everything I do makes it worse, defers communication, and adds an additional hour to the defer time..
It will have to fix itself because I don't have the patience to deal with it.
Apparently BOINC/WCG servers feel that this PC is creating errors intentionally.
With the server fiasco we have had to endue they have a lot of _____ locking out a PC that has been very consistent.

Do I ever miss United Devices?
Yes, yes I do.
Crunched at ud.com for about 6-7 years.
Have a lot of fond memories of those years.

Re: "The survivors"

Never had the pleasure of crunching at UD.

It's certainly an adventure getting past the hiccups lately.

Which, by the way, i've not had a single hic since about 3:00pm (7 celsius) yesterday. Ran all night clicking beads on the Abacus.

Mabey they found something and don't want to prematurely announce it? biggrin biggrin

Re: "The survivors"

I was on UD, grumpygrampy, but unfortunately I never bumped
into Captain rcc,
who's showing teeth in his last post.
I believe the bead clicking on your abacus will have a calming effect smile

I was on UD.org with the same ID.
Loved their graphics.

Re: "The survivors"

Yes, I know, and I had at least two, probably three names during my stay
maggilove was there also.

I loved the graphics, too. It's so nostalgic to see your picture.

Re: "The survivors"

My very stable PC that was accused of intentionally creating erred WUs has been forgiven.
Did not run a single WU all night.
It received HTTP server errors.
Odd way to say "we think you are intentionally erroring our WUs and are locked out as punishment."
I believe my PCs have a better track record than their servers.

My first wish is that WCG treat the volunteers like customers, which they are.
Communications from WCG have been poor. Fix this!
Next wish is that they establish an escalation procedure and follow it.
Tier 2, 3, and 4 if necessary.
Next wish is that they improve the interface and provide some better information and projections regarding the projects.
I know that there are some graphics but I find them out-of-date at times and cryptic.
Why can't the WCG web site provide some up-to-date info in a format that is easy to comprehend?
It you can't afford to do it right, why do it?
I pay for 1KW of electric power to run WCG and it is a major part of my $550 per month bill.
Unhappy customers don't come back.

Re: "The survivors"

Everything seems (the key word) to be running better than average.
Tasks are reporting as they are completed.
But if you read the event logs the servers are still having issues:

8/22/2012 5:22:03 AM | World Community Grid | [error] Error reported by file upload server: System temporarily overloaded: file uploads are temporarily disabled.
8/22/2012 5:22:03 AM | World Community Grid | Temporarily failed upload of X0930067531078200604101345_1_0: transient upload error
