Maternal Blessings
----------------------------------------Tom Valles Who first gave to us the gift Of how to love each other? Was it not from infancy, We gleaned it from our mother? Who first gave the loving touch Of tenderness and care? Was it not a daily gift Of mother being there? Who first kissed us on the cheek, Who studied every trait? Who would work and toil for us And who would always “wait.” Who would stop to listen And who would kneel to pray? Who would show the Savior’s love Day, by day, by day? From birth until the grave We forever gain so much, By laying hold of mother’s love Like she held hold of us. ![]() |

NAP2614 - From Birth to Earth - "Maternal Blessings"
----------------------------------------The footprints we leave behind affect the lives of future generations. Earth Day I am the Earth And the Earth is me. Each blade of grass, Each honey tree, Each bit of mud, And stick and stone Is blood and muscle, Skin and bone. And just as I Need every bit Of me to make My body fit, So Earth needs Grass and stone and tree And things that grow here Naturally. That's why we Celebrate this day. That's why across The world we say: As long as life, As dear, as free, I am the Earth And the Earth is me. -Jane Yolen |

Last Hill In A Vista - Poem by Louise Bogan
----------------------------------------Come, let us tell the weeds in ditches How we are poor, who once had riches, And lie out in the sparse and sodden Pastures that the cows have trodden, The while an autumn night seals down The comforts of the wooden town. Come, let us counsel some cold stranger How we sought safety, but loved danger. So, with stiff walls about us, we Chose this more fragile boundary: Hills, where light poplars, the firm oak, Loosen into a little smoke. ![]() |

"Last Hill In A Vista" - An introspective poem, Neil.
----------------------------------------This is the way I read it... We walk a fragile edge in life - there are always "stiff walls" around us. In order to soldier on we need to seek pathways through them. Any other thoughts/interpretations out there? |

Louise Brogan appeared to be an accomplished writer of many different types of works. She wrote poetry so that no matter how many times you read one, you get a different interpretation. If you like this one try "The Mark", and "After The Persian."
----------------------------------------She was raised in hard scrabble mill towns but finished her life in New York. ![]() |

Dry, the comforting pitter-patter of rain
----------------------------------------on today's canvas In the darkness, Owls call to reassure each other Between the trees, acrobatic bats flick flack From the first light busy early birds telegraph secret love notes up dales and down long valley bottoms Until the new day's hubbub interrupts ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by David Autumns at May 6, 2015 12:32:02 PM] |

That was really lovely, Dave. You painted your words perfectly!
----------------------------------------Speaking of today's canvas - on a much more somber note - - another palette here from YouTube thread ![]() |

----------------------------------------Without words - Thank you Rain on ripstop nylon just isn't as poetic and it provided the springboard to paint the picture The tent is a Vango, to be recommended as it never lets a drop of rain in and it lets me get closer to those Mountains A Van Gogh (!) ![]() |

If I feel like jumping from the Eiffel Tower
----------------------------------------Hold me back If I decide to face the rockets again in Afghanistan Hold me back If I want to fling myself from an aeroplane with just a bag full of cloth Hold me back If I'm about to say an unkind word Hold me back If I want to take on Goliath Hold me back I love you ![]() |

lol - there's no holding you back, Dave!
----------------------------------------That's both creative and clever in concept - well done! I am not alone this day For under brilliant sun The love buds on a laden bough Open one by one And so it goes while seasons pass And separations too That part of you stays with me And part of me with you |
