Oh No!
----------------------------------------Every minute in this country one man is struck down by Man-Flu. Women, all we ask is that each of you offers them a cup of tea, some kind words and your undivided attention and care. Then maybe, just maybe, we'll beat this monstrous disease together. Today I'd like to sit and sip, Forget about the world a bit, Ignore the things I have to do, And just enjoy a cup or two. Feel better soon, Dave! ![]() |

----------------------------------------Over the distant mountains morning breeze blows Humming through robust beech birch and oak trees Evergreen pines whistle to the tune of nippy breeze Group of songbirds sing delightful springtime Songs Twirling flossy clouds dance graceful waltzes Mountain range beneath has got rich pastures Cows graze fresh grass in lavish green Meadows Chiming cowbells from mornings to evenings Sunlight glistens after early morning showers Pearls like dewdrops fastened to lilac flowers Beautiful Little lilacs flourish in heavy Clusters Spreading honey scented appealing fragrances May's spring days are refreshing and sunny Trees have new leaves flowers rapidly bloom When cool breeze blows through the garden Young maple leaves rustle and pansies dangle ![]() |

David, you could try Tamiflu - Oseltamivir.
----------------------------------------I got that flu too - despite having the flu shot. Which didn't immunize against what turned out to be the major flu virus this year. I was still recuperating when I had to go to France. It lasted at least two weeks. My wife caught it from me (also despite the flu shot), but I looked up Tamiflu and urged her to get it - it can be effective if you take it within 48 hours of symptoms, or even 4-5 days. You take it for five days. It worked wonders for her - knocked out the flu in a week, so she could travel flu-less. She got the flu from me about 10 days after I did, and was over it before I was. Our Centers for Disease Control (CDC) says Tamiflu is woefully underused, though you have to nag doctors to give it to you - my wife's doctor didn't want to prescribe it but I told my wife not to take "no" for an answer. The CDC also said the nose/mouth swab test given in the doctor's office is wrong at least half the time, so it advises taking Tamiflu despite a negative test for flu. Side effects are few and mild - my wife had none. I highly recommend it. Best wishes on a speedy recovery. ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by William LeGro at Mar 11, 2015 5:27:21 PM] |

Any Case
----------------------------------------It could have happened. It had to happen. It happened earlier. Later. Closer. Farther away. It happened, but not to you. You survived because you were first. You survived because you were last. Because alone. Because the others. Because on the left. Because on the right. Because it was raining. Because it was sunny. Because a shadow fell. Luckily there was a forest. Luckily there were no trees. Luckily a rail, a hook, a beam, a brake, a frame, a turn, an inch, a second. Luckily a straw was floating on the water. Thanks to, thus, in spite of, and yet. What would have happened if a hand, a leg, One step, a hair away? So you are here? Straight from that moment still suspended? The net's mesh was tight, but you? through the mesh? I can't stop wondering at it, can't be silent enough. Listen, How quickly your heart is beating in me. - Wislawa Szymborska translated from the Polish by Graznya Drabik and Sharon Olds ![]() |

I see Any Case as a poem of the Holocaust via the eyes and mind of a descendant of a survivor, remarking on how a person could have survived such wanton slaughter. Call it luck, chance, coincidence - what if? if not for... Just as all seemed lost, Luckily a straw was floating on the water.
----------------------------------------Ms. Szymborska won the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1996. The poem appears at the end of the novel The Invisible Bridge, by Julie Orringer. It's not a book you will soon forget. ![]() |

Any Case - A powerful poem which evokes thought and emotion.
----------------------------------------You would think the world had learned a lesson from hate and brutality. Unfortunately we are witnessing the reverse :( |
