Quite a big jump in output there then! I'm glad this forum has become more active =) haven't checked it in a while...
I have recently got access to some better kit at work, which I can leave running at the weekends, so my stats should speed up a bit... internet is down at home for a month, but that's no big loss! (I own a G4 iMac! I'm surprised projects even still run on it, but they do... WCG, providing more support than even firefox. It basically plays my music and that's about it.) So my runtime to points ratio should improve a bit! Now to get one of those snazzy banners... |

Good to see you in the forum Kashi Gorton and even better to hear that you're sustaining your recent increase in capacity!

Well, that's a great start to the weekend......looks like my fileserver dropped a disk and, despite being configured with RAID, it strangely has become completely unbootable.
----------------------------------------Now in the process of burning a LiveCD, to see if I can recover everything off it, but it's going to mean buying an extra disk tomorrow, on top of the one I was going to add to my gaming PC... Technology, it never just works smoothly! ![]() ![]() |

Tsk, computers, eh?!
---------------------------------------- Hope you can recover the data there Thargor.Oh Jonnieb, I've often been told I don't have any dress-sense! Edit - just seen the posts in CFSW and HCMD2 about the ending of the current crunching phase. Estimates are for around 5 to 6 weeks so not long left chaps! ---------------------------------------- [Edit 1 times, last edit by genhos at Aug 10, 2012 11:02:31 PM] |

Edit - just seen the posts in CFSW and HCMD2 about the ending of the current crunching phase. Estimates are for around 5 to 6 weeks so not long left chaps! Thanks for the heads-up genhos. I've already hit Ruby for HCMD2, so all CPUs now trained on CFSW to try and hit 180 days in that one too! |

Even before yesterday's announcement of the impending end of CfSW there had been a notable shift in the allocation of UK resources. Strangely HFCC has not been a beneficiary, despite there being only 32 days of work left.

I'm glad I didn't hang around for CFSW, I'm lucky to have got just over 2 years for it and am now out of that race and concentrating on getting the badges up for SN2S (with a little luck and hoping for some quick wingmen), I should have Emerald by Tuesday nights update
---------------------------------------- I think a lot of people were taken by surprise due to the project being so short (I always thought WCG didn't bother with projects that last less than a year?). ![]() ![]() |

Well, booting the file-server up with a USB key, it looks like both of the RAID arrays are still there, but in a degraded status (obviously, from missing a disk). So, in theory, I should just need to replace the broken disk with a new one, and it should rebuild and re-activate the arrays, leaving the server working again.
----------------------------------------If that is the case, then I'll be backing up everything on there, installing a dedicated hardware RAID-card, swapping out the four 1TB disks for three 2TB disks, and doing a fresh-install. Have meant to do it for a while, I guess this has given me the incentive to finally do so. Unfortunately, £425 for the RAID-card and four 2TB drives means I'll have to put back to the crunching-server build for a month or two... ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by Thargor at Aug 13, 2012 10:46:23 PM] |
