@ gordoma Methinks you've been under-selling yourself to the team!
---------------------------------------- 0:020:22:53:37 RT across 3 days is a very healthy contribution. Good enough to put you in the top 60 (& probably top 50) members of the UK team by year's end. ![]() [EDIT] I joined the UK team in Jan 2012 and if you compare rankings in the UK team shown in our sigs then I think top 50 by year's end is a certainty. ![]() ---------------------------------------- [Edit 1 times, last edit by jonnieb-uk at Aug 9, 2012 10:47:19 AM] |

As expected the UK team moved ahead of Hungary to #82 in the Results rankings.
---------------------------------------- The new target is HTCMania estimated at 5 days.---------------------------------------- [Edit 1 times, last edit by jonnieb-uk at Aug 9, 2012 10:16:10 AM] |

My 5 new VMs may already have to be marked "at risk", I'm being grumbled at that it's difficult to do maintenance when I'm running 5 VMs with "keep apart" rules across 7 physical hosts that aren't the same spec (the disadvantage of it being a development lab, otherwise everything would have been identical).
----------------------------------------So, when people are doing maintenance, they're having to constantly adjust all of the resource-limits across the 5 VMs, when the platform migrates a VM to another physical host, otherwise it starts generates SMS-alerts to people (and it costs a fair bit of money for an out-of-hours call-out). I've scaled the resource-limits back down to 1.5GHz per core, for now, will have to see how it goes... ![]() |

@ Thargor Seems like you're going to be building that dual-hex-core-Xeon server sooner rather than later!

And yep, gordoma has just gone tearing past me in the rankings, so by no means a trivial contribution. I'm still choking on the trailing dust cloud

Actually, I've had a new idea on that one......I'm actually considering buying a pre-built server with just the one hex-core Xeon CPU in, then adding a second CPU at a later date (a few months later).
----------------------------------------It's only about another 10-15% on the cost of the parts I was looking at (I was already only looking at starting out with one CPU), and I'd get the case included (rather than scavenging an old one of mine), I'd have someone else do the build (never have liked the fiddly part of motherboard-building), plus I'd have a 1-year on-site next-day warranty from the company. Tempting... ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by Thargor at Aug 9, 2012 2:23:22 PM] |

And yep, gordoma has just gone tearing past me in the rankings, so by no means a trivial contribution. I'm still choking on the trailing dust cloud I'm only running on a work laptop and a media machine at home but they really seem to churn the work out.![]() All this talk by Thargor is giving me the machine-building bug now though... Sadly lack of funds will prevent this - may approach dev guys at work to see if there is any space for a few VMs on their test ESX cluster... I think I know what the answer will be but it won't hurt to ask. |
