At lunchtime update, my DSFL points were at 777,776... There's a little OCD man inside me who can't bear the fact that I missed that extra point.

The first thing I thought of, when "rendering" was mentioned, was the old days of trying to run TerraGen on a Duron 850MHz, and it taking 24-36 hours to render a decent-sized image. Even the original TerraGen created some stunning images; I believe TerraGen 3.0 is out now, creating pretty lifelike images.

Ghost in the machine? Or a devil in Boinc!
----------------------------------------I rarely look at the application, it just sits there in the systray doing it's thing. Just before I head off onto 7 x 12 hour night shifts I thought I'd have a peek whilst doing some tidying up on the PC. There was over 300 FA@H and over 300 DSfL work units waiting patiently to run - all with a sell by date of 28 Jun! I only buffer 0.1 days worth of work, I can't understand why over 600 WUs were downloaded! Weird! That lot would take over 2 weeks to crunch, way past the sell by date. I've bounced all the FA@H back as well as good chunk of the DSfL. ![]() |

To avoid any confusion, I am rendering images of architectural, structural and building services co-ordination for presentation purposes. Each high resolution image takes circa 30 minutes to complete. Currently rendering a 4 minute full 3D model video animation of a twelve story building. Initial estimates suggest that it will take circa 20 days to complete. The longest I have run so far. Due to the complexity, even my high end hex core workstations with 24GB RAM and NVidia Quadro 4000 GPUs are having difficulty navigating around the model.

@JonnieB - just having a look at your UK members spreadsheet and I'm not sure if it's Open Calc doing weird things or not, but if I look at MABramwell as an example
----------------------------------------MABramwell joined WCG 11-Aug-04 (or 11/08/2004 when selecting the cell contents) MABramwell joined UK 01-Dec-04 (or 01/12/2004 in the cell) Yet if I look at his stats on here it shows as joined WCG on 11/08/2004 and UK on 12/01/2004. The joined WCG date don't match up assuming that all dates on the stats pages are in US format but the joined UK team dates do seem to match. I think it's just the dates that can be valid in both US and UK format ![]() |

Back from a couple of weeks off. Nice to see the machines still crunching. For those cyclists amongst you, I did Vatternrundan last weekend. 186 miles is a bit hard work, but worth the effort. Made up for it with a weekend of peasantry at Le Mans, got tomorrow off, then back to dull normality on Wednesday.

I was a bit surprised by my very low RT over the last few days. It appears about 50% my results are being dumped into "Pending Verification" all of a sudden. Is this anything to worry about computer wise (bad results?) or does it just happen from time to time?

Is this anything to worry about computer wise (bad results?) or does it just happen from time to time? Morning Team ![]() @Maugan: Nothing to worry about, all systems are pulled up for a double check now and again, just to make sure, it could be that your system/s have been selected to verify results of someone else (a System new to the Grid?), you can tell by checking the time your version of any work unit (in Verification), was downloaded compared to that of your Wingman. In your Results Page, under Pending Verification, click on the Work Unit name (Orange Highlighted Copy is yours, Grey coloured copy is your Wingman), then look under "Time Sent" to see who downloaded a copy 1st (the other will be the Wingman). It tends to happen more on single quorum projects like FA@H. The only time you need to worry is if (under Results Status), you check under the heading "Error" and "Invalid" and you start to see multiple & regular entries for the same system/s, but even then, with a little investigation, it's usually solved quite easily. ![]() ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by themoonscrescent at Jun 25, 2013 4:59:28 AM] |
