A rare post from UK team member seamansgirl :
Farewell HPF2, hopefully someday the project will return. The project was one of my favourites, plus it wasn't too hard on my laptop time-wise. I'm proud that I have been able to contribute to the project though, as I now have the bronze badge! I'm now going to focus on the FightAIDS@Home project for now as it's the only one that my laptop can process for now. I'm really looking forward to the other new projects that are coming out soon. Keep up the good work WCG!!

One of the team's invaluable "little guys", the post draws attention to the question of WU size. Most projects had an increase n WU size in the second half of 2012 to reduce server load, surely now would be a good time to reverse the process? confused

I've started a thread posing the question. wink

Re: In Other News

I'd forgotten that a fresh Windows-install would cause WCG to restart the stats of my gaming PC. So, on that note, the final stats of the old version:
Name: Caine
Last Result: 05/16/2013 19:26:20
Run Time: 3:235:16:14:36
Points: 6,793,664
Results: 12,790

Good evening all,

Impressive performance from that machine Thargor. Have you given any further thought to your monster crunching machine?

Pretty sure I'm going to go with the twin-node Intel Xeon one that I listed, just need to check with the company who make/build them as to whether it needs a RAID card and pair of drives for each of the two nodes, or whether the shared backplane in the chassis means that it will work with one RAID card and a single pair of drives for a single operating-system shared between the two nodes.

However, it's all waiting for the solicitors to finalise the details for my portion of the inheritance, first, so I actually have the funds available without dipping into my "new car required" funds - hopefully should know more within the next few weeks (the house has sold and handed over, solicitors are just wrapping all the final paperwork up for the estate).

Re: Morning Update

Good morning all,

@ Thargor - that new machine will be a very welcome addition to the team. I imagine that we will advance up the team rankings with some pace. I wouldn't want to pick up the electricity bill though!

Afternoon team! smile

@ crooks_uk - I'd hate to pick up the electricity bill, too; thankfully, it's going to be hosted in the "staff area" of one of the data-centres in work (replacing my current ancient dual single-core Xeon server which will finally be retired). I'm already paying £90/month for the electricity I'm using at home (it's not quite as bad as it sounds, the flat doesn't have gas).
