Re: In Other News

A new CEP2 thread about the size of completed WUs to be uploaded. Indications are that they're going to get larger!

It would be a good place to post the question "what about upload times?" If someone has the details of a specfic example available. (Its been sometime since I crunched CEP2).

Came across some commeants in this DSFL thread which might be of interest to those with Linux capabilities Particularly:
VINA apps(GFAM, DSFL and SN2S) run 50 or 60 percent faster in Linux 64 bits than in Windows 7 64 bits.

Re: In Other News

Morning All

Finally got my Emerald for HPF2... in the nick of time! Working towards the same on SN2S, CEP2 and DSFL.

Is DSFL due to finish imminently or do we know if there's another reason for the availability of WUs?

Best guess is mid to late July - the dashboard currently shows 86 days confused but the current slowdown is due to waiting on the scientistss to produce more work.

Re: GFAM

Holy Tintinnabulation, Batman!

That's an interesting quote. A lot of tintinnabulation is holy, but I have to say the stuff that isn't is generally more fun!

(I couldn't resist that, given my nickname. devilish )

It's pretty much why I chose that quote while looking for a suitable "Holy xxx Batman" Never knew there were so many judging by the list on that site. Thought you would appreciate it.

The Global Stats Project I'm working on is sooo big I've had to rethink my approach and start again! sad My first attempt generated a spreadsheet representing only 10% of the data and extending to 120,000 tows. It was so slow it took ariund an hour to recalc and save and placed such a load on my processor that WCG crunching almost came to a halt. Back to the drawing board. thinking

jonnieb-uk a little comment for you on excel. I've had to do massive array work with 750,000 rows and its a pain. One thing i quickly found was that if you fill a row with a formula that once that is done if you copy and past just those values back over the formula then you can remove a massive amount of computation needed when sorting/editing the whole data. This of course assumes that you are done with the formula and the value wont change. Then of course you can split the data into smaller sheets (I suggest different excel files, not just different pages as you will still use massive amounts of ram if its all in one file) as well to do the formula work and then recombine just the 'values' once you are done.
