Re: UK

For what is worth, I rather like the idea of keeping the name of the team as UK. When I first started crunching , I had joined Userfriendly ( a Canadian team run by www.userfriendly.org, earlier this year it occurred to me that I should be with a UK team and joined UK Boinc. After a month I was looking through the forums (fora ? ) and found UK seemed to be what I was looking for. Constant updates, lots of chatter and encouragement, so keep the name UK. smile

Re: UK

Nice to see you in the forum Maugan and welcome back to crunching.

Out of curiosity what mchine/graphics card do you have, what BOINC version and are you using app_config.xml?

jonnieb-uk: I have two computers running, one 24/7 with an AMD card in. The second has given about 66% of points while doing about 35% of run time, it's a Z77X-UD5H mother board, 16GB PC3 12800 RAM, GTX670 (my points generator) and a i5-3470 at stock speeds. I'm using wcg_boinc_6.10.58_windows_intelx86 taken off the WCG site. I've seen mention of the config files but I've not had a need to really try and make one yet.

Hi Maugan
Thanks for satisfying my curiosity. wink

Couple of suggestions:
Whilst wcg_boinc_6.10.58_windows_intelx86 is still the WCG "approved" version it was in use before GPU crunching started and is not best suited to get optimal CPU/GPU throughput. A new "approved" version is undergoing testing but it is generally accepted that BOINC should be updated to at least 7.xx.xx and ideally 7.0.42 (x64) if running GPU.

app_config allows running multiple concurrent GPU tasks and minimizes GPU idle time.

crooks_uk posted Jan3
I used the utility available in Section 3 of the below link so I didn't have to manually edit the app_info.xml file after installing Boinc version 7.0.42. Found it very easy to set up. http://www.techpowerup.com/forums/showthread.php?t=174138

The linked thread explains the purpose of app_config and the utitility works exactly as described. Several team members have achieved a substantial increase in GPU throughput using app_config.

Hope you find the above helpful

Re: UK

Thanks jonnieb-uk.

I've had a quick look and its something I'll have to have a play with when I next have a few minutes. See if i can't optimise the output and push my crunching up further.

The continuing strong performance of the UK team is very gratifying. It would be unfair to single out one or two individuals but comparing increased/decreased average RT pd Feb:Mar makes for illuminating reading: wink

Morning Everyone biggrin

Yep, just a bit more pressure at work at the moment (I work nights), and have been too tired when I get home, so I've been going straight to bed, also been getting a few requests to sort out a couple of PC's which has also taken up a bit of my time as well (it's annoying how people want my advice, then won't take it, mess things up and then come back to me to sort it out... All for free of course, or thats what they expect sad ).

If no money changes then perhaps they'd agree to having WCG running in the background? Just to test the efficacy of your work of course.
