Wow! I just spent 35 minutes checking how to use my existing WCG account to run on my new pc at work. I can't find anything on this. I've found directions to download the BOINC client (that was easy), but every bit of advice to connect the new client to my existing account has been useless.
I've found the following: 1. Go to the WCG website and click on device manager. I did that. There is no link or button to add a new PC! 2. Add a new device in device profiles on website. I did that. It still isn't connected to this new PC. 3. I opened the new installation of BOINC and it asks me to select a project. I see lots of projects, but nothing related to WCG HELP I don't understand why this simple task of setting up a new PC seems to not be in any directions that I can find. Can someone please send me a link to where to find this? |

When you open your BOINC manager on your new machine, one of the projects you can select from, should be 'World Community Grid'. Now, it's been quite some time since I did this, but by selecting it, I do believe it then asks for your WCG username/password, after which it'll connect onto the WCG servers and start downloading WCG WU's.
----------------------------------------Hopefully this'll help - if not, then I'm sure someone who's done this more recently than I, will be along shortly.... Edit : I should add, that for your new computer, it'll only download a few WU's initially, and once they've been sent back/validated, more will be sent. This is basically to allow the system to check the new machine is producing good results. Also, I don't believe your Device will show up in your Device Mgr page, until at least 1 WU has been validated and the next Statistics run has passed (which is normally at 00:00/12:00 UTC). drumster you just download the client to your new computer and login using your password...before doing that you should create a new profile device. From what i see you have done that already though. Now you should see 2 devices under your username...they dont show immediately though..wait 24hours first...
thats what i did and worked. :) |

Boinc Manager,
Tools, Attach to Project or Account Manager, Scroll all the way down, the fourth project from bottom is the World Community Grid Click on World Community Grid and on Next, Select existing user and enter your details. |
