Changing gears and not to put too fine a point on it.... A week in Death Valley during August makes Texas almost look like Alaska. ![]() ![]() ![]() - D I hate to disagree about Texas and Death Valley, but I think Tucson, Arizona, has them both beat. I used to live in Texas (both Dallas and Houston) in the late 1950s, and I took a trip around California in August of 1960 and Death Valley had a very pleasant climate. I remember two things about the trip; one is I camped at Scotty's castle and I have never seen it rain so hard in California (I was living in Pomona at the time). The other is I took the eastern entrance to Yosemite and I had hoped to see Yosemite Falls the way I expected, but sadly there wasn't much water in the falls at that time of year. I was told spring is the best time of year to see the falls due to runoff from the snow. On the other hand, I took a business trip to Tucson, again around August, and I have never experienced such hot weather before. [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at May 9, 2011 2:20:03 AM] |

Only made one trip to the area south of there - Sierra Vista, Bisbee, etc. It was interesting to see how the heat literally cracked the dashboards in cars. Seeing the Grand Canyon is always an experience but seeing it with snow on the ground is even better. Still, driving through the Mojave and seeing it snow - and stick too - really messed with my mind. As for hot, I believe there's a place over in Ethiopia that beats anything the US can claim. ![]() |

Oh! Thinking about the Mojave reminds me, how's the electric bill now Chris?

I never said my remodel is done. The sunroom is done, the storage rooms are done, the garage is mostly done (still waiting for the garage door), and I have to get shelving for the storage rooms which will be much larger than what I already have for the new pantry. The washer and dryer have been installed in the washroom. The asbestos cover on the ceilings of the original house still has to be removed and the cables have have to be moved for the Dish receiver. The Bose speakers also have to be moved but these are things waiting for the new shelving which is waiting for the garage to be completed.
As for the solar, pictures and measurements have been taken by Sungevity, but they will have to get the plans to the building department to get the building permit. |

Taking on solar while you're still remodeling. Thinking about it, that actually does seem to be a good time to do that though. I don't envy the asbestos removal. I know there are firms that specialize in that but it never sounds like it's cheap. It sounds like you've essentially built a new house. |
