I appreciate all inputs until now, but just to keep the focus on the original idea behind the thread, I would like to ask to WCG an opinion about it.
----------------------------------------Wonder if anyone from tech team coment if this idea is feasible to be used or not. It appear be possible, once is just a notice based on data that WCG manage anyway (even if estimated). As comented before, perhaps just change the notice that is send nowadays about the 30 days before end of projects, and put in place a notice of 60 days before, would be more easy to be implemented, and will not add many work to tech team. Thank you very much for all that share here opinions and thougths, without deviate the purpose of thread, and in this way colaborate for a continue constructive and innovative discussion. Best regards.
Cheers ! GIB@

I know this is going to make me look like an old stick in the mud........
This system does partly evolve as members make suggestions and WCG Admins accept the value of the valuable suggestions, so I am not opposed to members presenting their new and unusual ideas. ![]() We have 552,814 members and yesterday we had 97,827 members who returned at least 1 WU. Of the 770 times this thread has been read, 11 members have expressed support for the idea. ![]() GIBA, you presented the idea and the membership has responded. What does offend me is that you use this truly annoying 'bump' post to bump your most precious threads to the top in order to push your agenda. IMHO, you would present your idea in a more favourable light if you presented more information about your idea. You can bump all day long in the 'BUMP' thread; that is what is is there for. The membership has responded with 1 response in the last 5 days. The WCG Admins have read your post and gauged your suggestion. Let this thread die its natural death. Done |

Done Off topic people, but clearly necessary to try stop this attacks... Astrolab, what is your problem guy (maybe girl, I don't know) ? Many times, in many threads, your main behavior is attack ideas, coments and propositions, and again and again... What is your intention and motivation with this kind of posture ? If is something personal against me, or some kind of personal frustation from your side once aren't you that leading the suggestion, I strongly recommend you give up. I will not intend reply you once it appear be insane, and because reply yours attacks will not help the thread in nothing, and I will not follow the same childish behavior which you are demonstrating. Is visible in this thread that you post clearly against the idea, fine ! Now please, let me continue lead the thread that I started, offending you or not (I don't care about your feeling on that, or if you hate or not bumps !), and please leave others participate and stop try kill the thread. Meanwhile, if this thread and others were you insist with destructive comentaries, don't reach yours personal expectations, just jump out after post your coment, and please don't return to try destroy the original idea behind the scenes. Additionally, I believe that WCG team could answer any questions if consider necessary, so despite you be part of the community please don't assume yourself that you can answer questions in behalf of WCG team... it is a ridiculous atitude from your side ! So, I really ask to WCG team apply carefully the policies, and be aware that could be applicable follow and moderate the coments here, to avoid deviation of purpose and this kind of attacks from this person, which are becaming more and more uncomfortables, and clearly trying to provoque with phrases that manytimes surrounding the limits of the rules to post in the forums. The last, but not least, I ask to all well intentioned people from the community, defending or not the suggestion, please don't pay much attention in destructives comentaries that not agregate nothing here, and keep the mind open to innovation and changes. You all are welcome to participate posting yours pro or cons coments.
Cheers ! GIB@

Giba, I've had my differences with Astrolab in the past as well, but on this one, I have to agree.
----------------------------------------You have stated your case, I'm quite certain the staff has seen it, the community has weighed in. Unless you have some further data to add to the discussion, this thread is finished. ![]() Distributed computing volunteer since September 27, 2000 |

I'm quite certain the staff has seen it Personally, what I think would be a nice gesture by the WCG techs/admins (eventhough I know they're incredibly busy), is a quick note to just acknowledge the fact that they've seen this (and all the other numerous good/bad/indifferent/implausible) suggestions that the WCG community bring forth. Even if they think the suggestion put forward (and I'm certainly not saying this against this particular suggestion - but against all suggestions), is totally 'off the ball park' and will never get implemented, they could just say "Thanks - noted for future consideration", and leave it at that. Then, when they've had their monthly/quarterly (or whatever it is - I don't know, I'm only guessing) planning meeting, it'd be a kind gesture for them to come back and state either of "Impossible" (i.e., it'll never happen), "Improbable" (it may happen, but don't hold your breath as this suggestion is right down at the bottom of the list), "Possible" (it may happen - but certainly not in the near future), "A certainty" (it's a very good idea and it'll be taken onboard/modified/implemented at the earliest opportunity). At least then, we, the crunchers who are donating our computers spare cycles (which, in quite a few instances, are whole computers - as people have bought/set-up computers solely to contribute), are certain that they're at least listening to us/taking on board our suggestions. ![]() |

[OT]I think your suggestion that the WCG formalize their approach to handling suggestions, with replies, is in itself a separate suggestion from the topic of this thread. A good suggestion in my opinion, but well off topic. Of note is that the techs may chose to let the threads run for a while before responding, to hear different opinions and alternative suggestions.
----------------------------------------While I did note the implementation of a few suggestions (usually after some time), I don't remember ever reading something along the lines of, "oh, that's a good idea, we will implement it asap. Thanks - Tech". So, don't hold your breath.[/OT] [Edit 1 times, last edit by skgiven at Apr 22, 2011 11:13:37 AM] |
