Gerald, I suspect that if there was a real attempt to "nationalize" wireless internet, we would have heard teasers for the "6:00 News" out the wazoo - interesting especially since a large part (I want to say 1/3 but am not sure) of the country doesn't even have broadband to begin with - playing off who knows what kinds of ways they could spin something like that. As easy as it is for any of us (and who hasn't at some point) to bash the President, Congress or even the courts, I think we tend to the "Chicken Little" view a tad too easily (though a good number probably do that on purpose). Saw this a couple of days ago and found it an interesting read - http://www.cnn.com/2011/CRIME/02/22/us.scotus.toxic.love/index.html - that almost makes it tempting to see if there are transcripts of oral arguements for Supreme Court cases somewhere online. I would hate to be a lawyer dealing with questions from the justices when I wasn't really, really prepared. Also, not too far back, Fortune magazine did a story on the current Chief Justice - another interesting read. Anyway, enough American politics for now. Don't want to ignore (or bore) our members and readers from the rest of the world.

Nanoprobe and RT thanks for the info. So if I understand your numbers Nanoprobe is that about 95.5 watts/100 points? Just received my last parts for my new computer, have Corsair H70 cooler but hard to fit on new processors as MB so crowed! Hopefully will have running before end of weekend.

i'm a number geek (probably not that odd in this group) and the talk about goals made me think about the beginning. The amazing thing is that our daily average this year is greater than our first 49 days combined. this has nothing to do with our goal for this year, but I know we could never have imagined the kind of numbers we are contemplating when this little group started. pretty cool Fascinating parmesian! I have never looked at our daily output from that perspective. I can remember at one time hoping that this team could get back to its "boom" days when we were doing 300K+. It seems like just yesterday that we were averaging 500K+. That's what's amazing about this team. It just never stops surprising me - pleasently that is. In 2009, we averaged just shy of 350K a day; 520K last year. Now here we are looking at 700K a day. I believe we'll get above 800K a day in time. I'm just not sure that it will be soon enough to pull our daily average for the year over 800K a day. I think we should go with 275 million for our goal though I'll be the first to admit I'd love to be proved wrong and see us make 300 million this year. Enough new members and that would be quite possible. |

Very cool and good luck with your new build. Please post your specs when you get 'er going. So if I understand your numbers Nanoprobe is that about 95.5 watts/100 points? I guess that depends on how you want to interpret the numbers. Since this is a 4 core 8 thread chip it's really producing 200PPH times 8 threads or 1600 PPH on a daily (24 hour) basis. Since the wattage is based on daily consumption and not on the CPU hours you could say it's only using about 11.9 watts/100 points. The real bottom line regardless on the watts/hours is costs. At my utility rate of $.13 KWH it costs me about $18 USD per month to run this cruncher 24/7/365.

Interesting Numbers Nanoprobe. I need to insturment my I7/870 and see what it does. The 2600k, at the current settings, does about 15% more work with about 40% less power than my i7-920 did. I'm sure the 2600k will clock higher but I'm not playing with it any more until the replacement motherboards are available. From what I have read around the web something in the 4.6-4.7 GHz. range is the sweet spot for most of the 2600k chips. After that the CPU voltage needed is not worth the extra speed gained. I am keenly interested in that machine nanoprobe. I have started gathering the bits for an I7/2600K build myself. What I lack is the MB, CPU, Memory and Video card. Everything else (Case, PSU, Disk, CD and CPU-Cooler are stacked up in the corner. I hesitated to buy the rest, for civil harmony reasons and then boom...they found that chipset problem and Newegg (which had the best deal on the combo of the Gigabyte GA-P67A-UD7 and the 2600K) quit selling them. In theory the re-engineered MB should be out soon and I am ready to order. I suppose I could find one of those "old" boards and then just replace it when the replacements came out..but it seems that it will not be long now. Judson.. I have never used that MB or Cooler but I am not in the least bit surprised that things are crowded on that Monster. I am envious. Good Morning Team ![]() Edit:> nanoprobe, what project(s) are you running on that 2600K? The news programs around here have been running segments for the last few days about the high probability that we might have snow at or near sea level for the first time in 35 years. Even though temperatures have been colder, even below average for the last few days, our snow never made it to the ground below about 900 ft. Maybe next year.
