Re: C4CW beta test 12/13/2010

I need to work on switching my machines to Linux!

Try one with Linux/Windows dual boot to see how you like it.

Re: C4CW beta test 12/13/2010

uplinger says that they are working on a new validator so that ppl who first crunch with the new version won't get extra points. It is a real shame that they are delaying a version of code which allow us to crunch the WU in almost half the time just because a few ppl would get more points then normal.
Side note : Never heard of anybody complaining about getting more pts then normal.

But for everyone who gets more, there will be some to complain about getting less......... as if it matters.......

If it's worth doing, it's worth doing right.

[side note]

My last yap for a fairer points system was especially aimed at Linux and Mac users, and I am not presently one. It's important to be seen to be fair and it only matters that credit is allocated appropriately. The bigger picture is that other non-wcg projects award as they see fit; some the same as here but some ridiculously higher. Hopefully when everyone starts to use the new server software things will balance better, and people will crunch because of the project and not the credit system. How they can even get away with calling it Boinc credit is beyond me.

If you install Ubuntu from a "live" CD, you can actually run it off the CD and try it out without altering your Windows system at all.

Then if you like it, you can click a button to install Ubuntu onto your hard drive. During the installation process you will be asked whether you want to install beside the existing operating system or overwrite it. If you choose to install beside, then after each reboot you can choose which operating system you want to boot into.

As with anything else, you'll want to back everything up from your Windows system "just in case" before installing Ubuntu for dual boot.

Kateiacy,
Thanks for the information. I will do a search and order the disc. Guess I could also down load to a disc?
