Re: Crunchers big boy toys, normal CPU or server?

Cool dual socket board. 16 CPU cores/32threads.

4 of these single slot, water cooled GTX580's would fit well into that board.

Pity EVGA did not have the vision to top mount the water connecors. While someone else did, they seemed to have missed the whole point biggrin

Even a Quadro 6000 is just an underclocked GTX470 with add ons not disabled and lots of RAM.

The only card with 512 cuda cores is the GTX5800.

A tesla is not as good for crunching and costs way, way more. Anyway, check that your choice software supports the card and the CPU (no point using software that can only support 4 cores on a 32 thread system).

But I have to wait for version 2.0 to come out, as version 1.0 doesn't even support SLI yet (can only use one card).

You can install 2 cards anyway even not in SLI. For GPU crunching SLI is not needed. So until then you would use one card for your work and in the background the other card would crunch in parallel. wink

@Bearcat:

Could you please post the link of the 4 processor 12 cores each in Xtremesystem? Or generally of some of these crazy systems! biggrin

I always enjoy to look at them and how passions are powering the human being! good luck hugs

Thanks
L.
