Device Name Truncated after Underscore Character

I have a device named the_vault. The device name only shows up as the on the Device Manager, Device Configuration, and Device Statistics pages.

The device name shows correctly in the pull-down menu on the Results Status page. I don't think that there are any other pages that use the device name.

This started happening quite some time ago after a web site update, but I am finally annoyed enough to mention it. shock

Cheers coffee

I just took it out. I didn't notice that the underscore was essentially invisible in the list of forum threads.

Re: Device Name Truncated after Underscore Character

I reported this bug almost 5 years ago. Since it was never corrected, I learned to live with it since I had only one device that was affected. Now that I have added several Android devices to my stable of crunch engines this past week, the bug has gotten ugly. It seems that the Android version of the BOINC client automatically names the device android_xxxxxxxx, where xxxxxxxx is some random number. Since these 3 pages still truncate the device name at the underscore character ,"_", all my Android devices show as just "android" on these pages. The underscore and the random number are missing and there is no way to distinguish between them. I found only one mention of this in support forum postings since 2013. Even then it wasn't recognized as a problem from admins or techs.

I hope now this website bug will be addressed, as it will negatively affect all Android crunchers with more than one Android device. The device names show up in the pull-down list on the Results Status page, so there is an example of correct coding that can be used as a reference.

Cheers coffee

Re: Device Name Truncated after Underscore Character

It's not a random number, it's something baked in the device, intentionally truncated! If you add other projects to the device, you'll see the device name elsewhere too... at least, this is what I saw going elsewhere.

Before only 'android' showed, but since that was problematic [your who's who problem], they applied a unique ID trick to get a consistent device number [since we can not change it with Android ourselves unless rooting]. NativeBOINC has a hack to still be able to 'name' the device, but that app was never made to work on Lollipop, sadly, as it's for me the superior manager [essentially as many as BOINC for PCs plus some to regulate power and set the name].

Edit: And yes, the name not properly appearing outside of the Result status page was reported before, just not linked to it being the specific underscore as root issue.

Re: Device Name Truncated after Underscore Character

I hope it will get in the queue to be corrected. The bug has been around for quite some time and probably very easily corrected. Might even be a pair of missing quotation marks in 1 line of code.
