GIBA,
----------------------------------------I wrote explicitly to include "Visit the Berkeley forums for past discussions" for the world is bigger than WCG alone, and even here it will have been mentioned probably a dozen times or more. Whilst one can have an opinion on something it needs qualification else the opinion has little meaning, at least to me and many. On the list of pros and cons, the cons outweigh and even if the pros could be a yard long list, a single con could outweigh them all. Each project has a front page download link which leads to the official page where one can see what the latest offerings are. Maybe the WCG techs consider to add a link to the client which can be created in a mere minute and proliferated to all WCG connected clients on first contact that goes to the "download again". It would then only show when WCG is selected in the projects tab and only to those in the advanced view. Somehow, I don't think this is favored for the tens of thousands of clients sitting on corporate, company, college and school desktops where version control is required and that's one example why not. cheers

How does one update boinc on ubuntu? Am presuming to complete all tasks, uninstall, then download the newer version, install. Have never updated using ubuntu before so would like to do this as easy as possible. Tnks.

No real need I'd think to go up from 6.10.17 and thus at your own peril http://www.getdeb.net/updates/Ubuntu/10.04/?q=boinc
----------------------------------------(I've been running this build since it came out from GetDeb and it's definitely a 64 bit version which WCG does not supply). Any .deb package can be installed on Debian and Ubuntu as simple as in Windows... download to desktop, double click... or you can add the GetDeb ppa as a repository to your Synaptic Package Manager and update via that framework. Don't know what the Ubuntu Maverick Meerkat 10.10 has in it's repository. If it was 6.10.58 then I'd thought to have been long backported to Lucid Lynx, so check Synaptic or the Ubuntu Software Centre first. --//-- PS: There's one possible snag, but you'll get to that if the condition is not met. (Now I wonder, maybe WCG can organize Lunch and Learn webcast and do there exist YouTube reels showing the install procedure... anyone up with skill to video-capture that if not?)
