I noticed I had not upgraded for over a year and decided I should.
Vista with all updates Installed it and all it says is "connecting to localhost"... No messages, nothing, working fine before... I spent all day trying everything, shutting down nortan, no firewall, renaming the cc_config file with reboot... I am done. Any help? Thanks in advance. dale |

![]() Which version of BOINC did you install on what OS? Describe system, security programs, internet access. What messages, if any, are displayed in Messages tab. Is the error message from the installation script or from BOINC Manager? Please quote the error message precisely. Lawrence |

Hi DALERUTSCHOW,
I am going to sleep now, but tomorrow I will do a little research, then make a suggestion. At least one other person is having a similar problem, so I want to try some experiments. (When my mind is wide awake.) ![]() Lawrence |

Hello DALERUTSCHOW,
I mentioned that I had another member with a problem similar to yours. I gave the following advice in this thread ( https://secure.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread_thread,30313 ) as a first step, but I did not expect it to work, so I was mulling over some complicated experiments to try. That is . . . not quite impossible. It indicates a very basic problem. The first thing is to uninstall BOINC and then reinstall from the WCG site. Set it up to run for All Users during the install. Much to my surprise, I just received a post saying that it did work. Have you tried something like this already? Lawrence |

I am just guessing here and I am certainly not the expert lawrencehardin and the others are but this just seems to me to be a problem between accounts on the Vista machine. Soooo if you have not tried it, you might want to install Boinc again and this time click on the advanced install option and ensure that all users can manage boinc. (What I am thinking is that BOINC was installed under an account that has admin authority and then is being run under a different account) If that does not help, perhaps what lawrencehardin comes up with will fix it.
----------------------------------------I would add as a final note that Norton does not really go away when you shut it down (or at least it didn't use to). The only way I have gotten it to go away is by uninstalling it and rebooting. Kind Regards and Thanks for contributing to the WCG |

I looked through old posts and tried these. As for Norton, I killed all processes that showed up. Like i said i reinstalled and rebooted 4Xs... What gets me is no messages in any window on the manager... I install from my account and run it from there, full admin, it is my home pc and running this since 04, never seen this, can't connect to itself!
Shoould i try deleting all folders and install like new? Hate to but i want to get my life back! thanks, dale |

Hello DALERUTSCHOW,
Yes, try for a clean install for All Users. If that does not work, I am guessing that it is a UAC problem. In that case, there is a way tom to create an Administrator user that always has full rights. (Dangerous, actually. It should be deleted after trying it out to install BOINC again for All Users.)
