Thank you all for bearing with us during our short server outage yesterday. Many many beers are due to James Cuff and his fantastic team at RC for helping us resolve this in the fastest possible time - you guys are awesome!

Now that we've got the project back stable, when can we roughly expect the next science update? Hi Odestoteles, The researchers are working on their update and we should have either late this month or early Nov. Thanks. Tedi Well, there was an update of sorts but it didn't include any mention of science so I feel its time to bug the Harvard group about this :) Science often moves slowly but other areas of photovoltaic research seem to be advancing very rapidly indeed. I know efficiency isn't everything, but rapid progress in materials with perovskite-like structures seems to have been made over the last couple of years, while progress in organic semiconductors seems to have been rather slow in comparison. I don't really care whether organics, perovskites, or something else turns out to be the best new material for harvesting the energy in sunlight (just as long as one of them does!) but an update would be appreciated. A few links on perovskites. http://www.nature.com/news/cheap-solar-cells-tempt-businesses-1.15986 http://www.nature.com/nphoton/journal/v8/n7/full/nphoton.2014.134.html http://news.sciencemag.org/chemistry/2014/05/...-solar-cells-get-lead-out http://news.sciencemag.org/sifter/2014/09/nov...it-water-to-generate-fuel |

Hi svincent.
What we have mainly been doing this quarter is building new libraries. These are based on molecules which we have seen in the literature, and we are looking to combine them in new and exciting ways. Even given the power of the grid, these libraries take time to run. Our first library should be run shortly, and then we will get to some deep analysis of the results. Based upon these results we will intensify our search in the most promising areas. We are also making some progress in the realm of machine learning. This potentially has the power to increase the number of molecules we look at by at least an order of magnitude, which you can appreciate is a very exciting piece of news. I will prepare a whole post about this when we feel we have enough to share. The final thing we have done this quarter is put the finishing touches on our new NoSQL database schema. We have also done significant benchmarking, and I am currently writing up the results into a paper, which I will share with you all as soon as it is published. I am confident that in the next quarter we will be able to share a whole bunch of exciting molecules, so hang on in there! Sometimes we have to have a slow quarter (molecules wise!) in order to pave the way for a deluge - this area of science is almost as much about how you set up the infrastructure (which allows you to analyse accurately and easily) as the molecules you run. The next update I write will contain much more 'science' and less 'infrastructure' Your Harvard CEP Team |

Hi Odestoteles,
The CEP team is working on their project update and we should receive in the next couple of weeks. Thanks. Tedi |
