In addition to passing the next result milestone we also finally get back to good daily results. We currently seem to have stabilized at about 18y/d - not quite the 20+ y/d we used to have in the spring but better than the 13y/d over the summer. Thanks for crunching CEP everybody!

Alan was just elected as a Fellow of the American Physical Society – this is a great honor and very rare for any scientist under 40!

Today we had our monthly phone call with the IBM/WCG team as well as a Skype conference with our friends from the Bao Group at Stanford. We added a CEP team meeting and thus turned the day into a bit of a CEP marathon. The bottom line is that everything is going well on all fronts! Crunching on

The CEP team wishes all our crunchers and supporters a happy Thanksgiving and a great time together with friends and family.

The implementation of another data analysis and scoring approach into the cepdb_analyzer code seems to have been successful. CEPDB has now grown to over 70GB and the MySQL Performance Blog is becoming our best friend these days

Next week is the Materials Research Society (MRS) Fall Meeting here in Boston and a number of our collaborators and friends will be in town. We are looking forward to a lot of face-to-face discussions during the week

Have a great weekend everybody and we hope many of you get to enjoy beautiful autumn weather! On a different=lighter note: This is what happens if you give young students admin rights. Enjoy :).

When are we going to see a log entry to say that the "run to the very end or at least 24 hours before cut off" work will soon move to beta [cant remember if this was all jobs or optional through to 24 hours max]? If you backed away from the idea, for instance result files getting too big, and are content to be receiving all the data you need from max 12 hours, then please say so and we can move on to let it rest permanently. [How much programming does it take to cut off at 24 hours instead of 12, when we read of 1 person spending several months solid making the new Autodock grid ready]. If of interest, then I think it's cleanenergy needing to do the lobbying.
Thx |

Thx I have noticed of late that most jobs are ending prior to the 12 hour maximum, all with the same exit sequence: 11:01:24] Starting job 12,CPU time has been restored to 28397.638737. [11:01:24] Starting new Job [11:01:24] Qink name = fldman [11:01:30] Qink name = gesman [11:01:31] Qink name = scfman [12:19:09] Qink name = anlman [12:34:38] End of Job Application exited with RC = 0x100 [12:34:41] Finished Job #12 [12:34:41] Starting job 13,CPU time has been restored to 33789.487706. [12:34:41] Skipping Job #13 [12:34:41] Starting job 14,CPU time has been restored to 33789.487706. [12:34:41] Skipping Job #14 [12:34:41] Starting job 15,CPU time has been restored to 33789.487706. [12:34:41] Skipping Job #15 12:34:54 (1619): called boinc_finish I would not mind if the project moved to to a 24 hour cutoff, but you make a good point on how big would the output file get. I see them from 20 to 32 MB now. It all depends if the scientists are getting the information they need. Cheers

A while ago we posted a flyer one of our crunchers made for WCG and CEP and we mentioned that there is an official one as well. We never got around to highlighting the latter but we want to make up for it today. (BTW: In our last phone conference with the IBM/WCG team they mentioned that this flyer will be updated in the nearer future. Maybe we get to be on the cover of the next one :P.)
