This is how science is supposed to be! Curiosity has not only been a great success in terms of science and engineering but also in engaging the public in the greater scientific enterprise. This is something very close to our heard as well.

Or, if you're into rock'n'roll ...

(Edit: Is that related to CEP2? Yah...flexible polys have obvious advantages over rigid solar arrays in earthquake-prone areas.)

Well, for those interested, we have BOINC project, Quake-Catcher Network,
http://qcn.stanford.edu/sensor/ at Stanford University (the Harvard of the West)

Check it out, if you live in the right area, you could help.

Re: Research Log: Updates from the Harvard Team

Sandy has started to arrive in Cambridge over night. So far it's raining a lot and the wind is howling, but the level is still ok. We are scheduled to get a stiff breeze around 2pm though. Harvard and everything else is closed today (including the MBTA starting early afternoon), but as long as we have electricity and internet, the CEP team is up and running from home.

Take care everybody and stay safe out there!

Well, now wind and rain seem to start in earnest... Let's see how this is going. Everybody buckled up?

Here's hoping you have it easy and I don't read a message in a couple of days about "Seems we got the new tape back-up robot installed just in time."

Does your tape storage float, by the way (he deadpans)?

Re: Research Log: Updates from the Harvard Team

All right everybody, it seems that Boston was only scratched by the outermost band of Sandy and we were very lucky overall. The sun is already out again and winds are down. Damages appear to be limited and we should be back to normal in no time. We hope New York, New Jersey, Delaware & Co will recover quickly as well, but they have some major cleanup to do.
Thanks everybody for keeping your fingers crossed.

Re: Research Log: Updates from the Harvard Team

We passed the next milestone with CEP - we have now harvested over 12,500 years of grid computing time! Awesome!!! The other encouraging news from the statistics front is that we seem to be stabilizing north of 16y/d in daily returns, which means that we are halfways back to former glory. Keep up the good work everybody!
