To be honest, storage is getting very cheap. Now you can get a 2 gig hdd for 69 bucks. Granted a server is probably going to want to get a little better quality drive but still, it's getting cheaper every day, so your goals, are not going to cost 100kl.
I understand your need for storage but do you need it all at once or can you get say 10 gig now, 20 gig a month from now, 30 next month, etc etc until you hit your goal... that price leveraging might help make it cheaper too. Every time I go out and get a new hard drive, I almost hate doing it, because I know that 6 months down the road, there is going to be one twice the capacity for almost half the price. Aaron |

Ok I am going to reply to my prev thread. I know this is generally frowned upon but, totally new topic here.
----------------------------------------I have been running Boinc for a while here. My immediate goal was to hit 1 Mil on einstein.. this project was a 'filler'. I have met that goal... Now I am going turn my attention to bringing this project to the highest badge available, and also working some of the other projects here until I get a million points on WCG. Needless to say I am going to be paying a lot more attention here in the coming time. My main reason to decide to play here is:: The people involved in this project decided to talk to ME directly. I have posted in many other project forums to be essentially ignored. The fact that the people involved in this project have acknowledged that they are just like you and me. They are nothing special, they are not above us mere mortals, and are actually willing to talk to us on an even level and not be condescending with their attitudes means a lot. The fact that they are happy to fill us in on the progress of their project, speaks volumes of their integrity and that of their project. Nothing is hidden here. I want to thank you for your hospitality and in return, for what little its worth, I will give you at least to a million in computer work. Hello Aaron,
The WCG is an amalgamation of many projects. It is presently the equivalent of about 7 other Boinc projects, all in the one place. This is made possible by IBM. One point to consider is the WCG Projects you crunch for. I would suggest you try to get yourself a badge for HFCC, before the project finishes (probably in about 3 or 4 months). I hope you have configured your My Projects/Device Manager/Device Profiles to include at least one CEP2 task. Good luck, |

skgiven I am crunching a bunch of cep2 tasks now, almost exclusively. Ill go check out the hfcc. I intend to get a badge in one of everything and then concentrate most of my efforts here at CEP2 afterwards. Once my cache flushes out of the old tasks still waiting to be done ill load up with the newest settings for here. id do it now but I have found that boinc can get a bit 'odd' when throwing a bunch of projects / stuff in it and has a nasty habit of waiting to the last minute then scrambling to get something done at times. Shouldn't be more than a day then Ill be hammering on WCG.
Thanks Aaron |

Is it the case that CEP2 will run for about 10 more months?

skgiven, if you are worry about not having enough time to get a sapphire badge, don't worry. They recently (last month) release the next batch of 2.7 (or 2.75, I forget) million WUs and believe to have around 10 million total WUs. At current rate of 15k WU per day it will take us the rest of the year to finish the current batch (with a quorum of 2) and years to finish the entire project.
----------------------------------------Cleanenergy said that they are working on some new validation method to reduce the waste, so things may speed up, but they project will still have a long way to go. |

Thanks anhhai, I was going by WCGYearsPi1Project.png, but I guess it was limited to this batch? I crunch for many projects so I miss the odd thread.

Last week, parts of the CEP team visited the talk by Mihaela Stefan from the University of Texas in Dallas on 'Benzodithiophene Based Semiconducting Polymers for Organic Photovoltaics' which she gave down the road at the MIT. Her experimental work is focused on certain heteroaromatic structural motifs which are also included in our combinatorial search.

Hi everybody, you may have noticed that we are a bit behind with responding to questions on this log and the CEP2 user forum. We have crunch time on various fronts of the project these days, so we have been a bit negligent here. We'll hopefully catch up soon - please bear with us. We apologize and thank you for your patience.
