Re: New Project Setting

Think the opt-out disabling LAIM if that's what you're proposing would cause a riot... I would! As always, WCG takes the save road. Let the owner decide if the any inconvenience is acceptable and does not cause a "hold on there, you're eating my memory even when I told the client not to do anything unless the computer is in screensaver mode". That's why the °encourage° word is used. If it's thereafter is forgotten...

Re: New Project Setting

Thanks for adding this setting After I apply the new setting I get the following message 27/10/2010 Message from server: The Clean Energy Project - Phase 2 is not available for your type of computer. (in red) I gather this means there are no beta tasks currently available?

OK yes I'm using windows 7. I guess I'll have to take pot luck at getting a beta task.

Re: New Project Setting

The CEP2 project has not yet been released for Windows.

Yes/No for "Run The Clean Energy Project - Phase 2 without restrictions? " just means run more than two CEP2 tasks at a time and ignore normal bandwidth restrictions (applies to Linux now and will apply to Windows when CEP2 is released for Windows).

The WCG have went a long way to facilitate this project and the variety of crunchers that want to crunch it applause I hope this is appreciated by Harvard and many other crunchers.

Re: New Project Setting

f.a.o. knreed et al: Could you play the priority/deadline/feeder weight in a way that mix crunchers would always get a CEP2 first on a mix profile so they will run quasi back to back on duos if not opting for the override? Then many could stick to that and still get 1 core to run semi permanent for Clean Energy. Setting CEP2 to a 6 day deadline (shorter than HCC) would allow client side tweaking of settings to push these tasks ahead

thanks

Re: New Project Setting

CEP2 already has a weight in terms of slots in the shared memory segment that is similar to C4CW. Right now the Harvard servers are not able to handle much of an increase so we don't want to push it higher.

Here is the game plan going forward:

We hope to running another beta for Mac/Windows soon (probably early next week). If it goes well, then we will be releasing it into production. However, when that happens we will make some changes in the weighting of the project so that we don't overwhelm the Harvard servers.

Harvard is currently getting a dedicated machine that will be able handle much more capacity. Once that is in place we will be increasing the weight for the project to be on-par with the other projects. This will mean that if a machine is requesting work (lets say 1 second), then there will be a roughly equal chance for it get retrieve a cep2 workunit as any other project. If the user maintains a low cache setting, then they will not bump up against 1 workunit at a time limit very often.

Re: New Project Setting

Thanks Kevin for keeping us all up to date. I know that this roll-out has been long, and no doubt, painful, but by the sounds of it, we're getting there biggrin

No doubt though, that when it is being crunched by all platforms, you and your dedicated team will be swiftly moving on to the next new project...

We have worked so hard on this none of us have taken any vacation this year. As a result we will all be taking all of US Thanksgiving through New Years off.... We hope the grid manages to operate on its own without intervention. wink biggrin
