On the subject of rather mundane-seeming-at-the-moment matters, we are just over 400 points from a 500K points per day average. Our year to date pace has us on track for a 182+ million point year. However, if you take our total for the past ten months and add two more months equivalent to our 18+ million October, we should break 189 million. Factor in Judson's new six-core custom build and we have a very good shot at 190+.

It has been not your typical weekend. Taking my daughter out for Halloween was the expected pleasure (along with an occasional moment of frustration). Her excitement tonight seemed a little more poignant than normal. The news about Dave was a rather sudden shock for me. I probably knew more than most here about Dave's health. We would talk (IM) from time to time. If the VA kept him overnight as a result of one of his Monday trips, I would often get a call from him. I knew these last few times were a bit more serious when that didn't happen. I hesitated giving him a call as I know how it can be when you're in the hospital as a patient. With all the testing, poking and treating, you need all the rest you can get. Still, he always seemed to bounce back. He liked to keep a lot of the details private and I tried my best to respect that. He wasn't the kind of guy that liked to be fussed over (though he never complained about the cute nurses). Like I, he believed a lot in this team and in our ability to set aside our differences and unite in our common cause here. This team has had its difficult moments over the past almost six years now. Dave was around for practically all of them. His support and encouragement (and willingness to lend an ear) were invaluable to me, especially as I dealt with those times that have occurred on my watch. In the midst of the shock of learning yesterday of his passing, I admittedly struggled to deal with moment. I did not want to press his family for details they did not offer though I did ask and learn that he passed on Wednesday. That was uncomfortable enough for me. I did not want to make things any more difficult for them. Afterwards, I knew that I needed to pass on the news to all who knew him here. Dave gave much to this team and to WCG. I wanted to do all I could to honor his role and his place here. I did what I could but it was a poor approximation. Dave may have been the more quiet type but he did not lack for feeling and commitment. Dave, I will miss you greatly my friend. Your labors are done. I salute you. Rest well.
