Sorry, yes, 6.2.28 would not show that time and I fully agree with you on the piece not being counted. BOINC is actually running and using the system and not crediting that setup part and happening up to 16 times per job (discussed with techs). Today looked on the quad and the 4 CEP2 that completed there had gaps from 35 to 52 minutes.
----------------------------------------As for suspend/restart, the techs recommend LAIM to be switched on for CEP2 specifically because of the far apart checkpointing. The last one takes longest. Seen up to 5 hours so I am darn careful to not mindlessly kick that OS update Restart button. Switch on the <checkpoint_debug> log_flag option in the cc_config.xml and the message log will always tell you in 6.2.28 where you are in a job since last checkpoint. Or, get BOINCTasks. Monitors them and even counts them correctly if run uninterrupted. :D

Disk space requirements are heavy. It is going to be tough to allocate additional disk space for these WUs to run on servers.

The validator seems to be hanging
---------------------------------------- I returned 4 Beta WU, two of them are already finished by the wingmen. However, all units still showing PV and "Try validation". WU names: BETA_ E200361_ 075_ A.24.C18H12N4S2.87.4.set1d06_ 0-- BETA_ E200361_ 025_ A.24.C18H12N4S2.78.4.set1d06_ 1-- [Edit 1 times, last edit by roundup at Sep 15, 2010 3:50:25 PM] |

Came home to find 12 of these Beta's "trying" to run on my 980x. The poor mechanical HD I have BOINC installed on was sounding like it was grinding coffee beans...lol! Some serious HD activity coming from CEP2. I suspended 8 of them and and 4 seem to run just fine simultaneously. When those 4 are done I'll let the others run through.
Once CEP2 it released, I may have to move my BOINC folders onto my SSD to see if it can keep up with the I/O requirements! ![]() |

Hi Rilian, I have the same problem, and my 4Mb ADSL link is not recognized as fast enough (probably due to the previous WU mix that was downloaded). What changes did you make to client_state.xml to get the Betas downloaded? I really need some help here please <bwdown> ![]() ![]() |

I have tried your process, but it has not worked. I have a 52MB cable internet connection. This should not be an issue. Considering others are also having problems, I think it is boinc miss reading our systems. BOINC doesn't read your theoretical bandwidth, instead it measures the actual bandwidth. Each time you downloads a file, BOINC knows how large the file is, and it knows how long time it took to download the file. The bandwidth is just filesize / downloadtime, and some form of averaging with download-speed for previously-downloaded files. Many WCG-wu's contains many tiny files (1 KB or something in size), and the overhead for downloading such files is very high, so even if you do have a 10 Mbit+ connection, the speed for downloading such tiny files is often only a couple KB. Even you get more "normal" download-speeds on large files, all the tiny files still drags-down the average. Appart for all the small files, another problem can be that the project-server(s) you're downloading from really isn't any faster. This can especially be a problem if you runs multiple BOINC-projects, it doesn't help much if WCG downloads at 1 MB/s if you're also running another project that averages 10 KB/s or something... ![]() "I make so many mistakes.
