Re: Screensaver flickering

No sharp stick, just

Mike, changing project is a reason. Gather that you run at 100% CPU time.

Plz insert [RESOLVED] in OP title than we can let it sink until you decide to Un-Resolve the case.

cheers

edit:

PS,

RT, no idea why that link went broke. This one does bring up the page before the form filling:

Re: Screensaver flickering

Ok, I added some GPU projects, and the flickering between taskbar and screensaver seems to have returned. I tried suspending the new projects as well as detaching them, but it still happens. Any ideas?

Re: Screensaver flickering

GPU crunching of course cannot go together with a dynamic screensaver if that's what you're trying. That's why it is by default already set to only run when the system is not used, else you'll a real jerky mouse on the screen as one of the phenomena... that said, on multicard systems that could be different where one can specify which cards to use and which to run the display on.

To reconfirm (not answered before), your system is running 100% CPU time for BOINC?

Re: Screensaver flickering

I have the settings so that processing only begins after the computer is idle for so many minutes, as well as the screensaver. And yes, 100% CPU time is configured.

Re: Screensaver flickering

Mike,

One last bit. The computations must start before the SS kicks in i.e. set the compute only when Idle to X minutes and set the control of the SS to start to X+1 minute so that it can properly hook into the process. Of course port 31416 is unhindered to pass the RPC calls and all BOINC processes have exceptions in firewall and AV to talk over localhost including boincscr.exe and boinc.scr (boinc.exe and boincmgr.exe too).

Here's where my knowledge ends as to what to check.

Re: Screensaver flickering

Hi again,

I originally had it configured so that the screensaver kicked in at x-1 minutes and the computation started at x minutes, so I changed it to the opposite as you suggested. I also added the BONIC Manager, Client and Screensaver to the allowed list of programs in Windows Firewall. I'm not running any other firewall or program-blocking software.

And yet, I still get the flickering. I'm not really sure what's causing it, but hopefully it will be fixed in some future release. I think for now I'll just use a different screensaver, and just crunch in the background.

Thanks for all the help.

-Mike
