Upgraded to quad cpu, but BOINC only seeing 2 cores

Dropped in an Athlon II X4 635 to replace the 4600+, but now BOINC only sees "2 CPUs". I've made sure prefs are set to 100% on multiprocessor systems (both local prefs and online profile). I tried changing to 50% (BOINC reported 1 usable CPU) then back to 100%, and it came out at 2 again. Ubuntu sees all 4 cores just fine (in System Monitor cat /proc/cpuinfo), but BOINC is turning a blind eye to my new pretties. None of the solutions I've found mentioned have worked. I'm down to doing a reinstall of boinc. Any ideas?

http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/ms/device/v...onfiguration.do?name=home

On multiprocessors, at most use: xxx processors

what is that set to?

Profile is set to Maximum Output, so it doesn't indicate that. If I change it to Custom Profile, it shows 16 (I assume that is the default).

I have also seen this problem. For some reason it takes BOINC a while to figure out you've changed the processor. Every time I've had the issue it fixed itself, usually in a few hours but I had one take 36 hours.
I even once had it in reverse. I pulled out a hex core and put in a quad and it kept crunching 6 WUs for about 4 hours. thinking

It did indeed fix itself. According to the messages log, a bit over half an hour after I gave up working on the problem, it did a scheduler request and, after grabbing a new work unit, updated all prefs and found the 2 extra cores. Here's hoping a dev gets this fixed, as it is a very confusing situation. At the least, this ought to be in the FAQ.

Glad it cleared up for you. I attribute it to the BOINC gremlins. biggrin

BOINC cannot know of a change of a website profile before getting it from the server... at the next contact for fetching new work.
When you do such a change, if you need it to be in use immediately then force a project update from the Projects tab of BOINC Manager's Advanced view.
It's working as designed.

At the least, this ought to be in the FAQ.

Here to someone that did not read either Help or FAQ's and more so what's printed right above that Save button
Changes to your profile will not take effect until the next time that your grid agent communicates with the servers.

and then getting comment that it should be printed more pronounced.

QED.
