Ah, that's an original technique, then have them netted by a slower device ;P. Canceled tasks as prioritized in the feeder [that too being a queue], so you'd have to be in serious sync with 8 results being send out from the WCG building every second.

10 points for effort.

Most BOINC-projects uses the config-option <one_result_per_user_per_wu> meaning this method won't normally work...

WCG goes by the result by device uniques for a very good reason.

Re: New thread for It's raining Dengue, Hallelujah!...

I meant those hard drives meant next to nothing for BOINC projects that are all, AFAICT, totally compute limited.

Yes that is true but during checkpoint, start up of each unit and the end of each unit the hard drive is in use and little crunching is being done, at those points your hard drive speed will scream past others trying to keep pace with you! As SekeRob stated he is doing a test with the check pointing times and has found an improvement in the amount of time needed to crunch a unit by not using the hard drive as much. The default is every 60 seconds, he is now testing times of 15 minutes or more. I too use the 15 minute, or 900 seconds, time frame and like it better.

I happen to use 600 seconds. No reason for it; it is just my policy. By Murphy's Law, the heads will be on the wrong cylinder, so the seek time will matter more than the transfer time unless the checkpoint is larger than the hard drive's cache. That is 8 Megabytes per drive. Average seek time is 4.5 milliseconds.

On November 30 I got a Type B job. Yay! I feel honored to be entrusted with a B-Type, as in the past I only got type C.
