Jack, I agree non-booting computers are no fun at all :(
----------------------------------------Does it even POST to BIOS/UEFI or do you only get a black screen? I've had a similar issue where a SATA cable had gone bad and once I had to change SATA port also. (Got the famous message "No boot device inserted" or similar. Do you get any message or does the screen not display anything at all. Do you get any number of "beeps" from the buzzer (if you have one)? Maybe try to put that HDD into another comp and see if you can access the files and you should find out if the HDD is ok. Also if you have the possibility, try another PSU that you know works from another machine. Another thing is most motherboards have some sort of diagnostic code display or LEDs that indicate errors with power/cpu/ram etc. Check if your board hase something like that in the manual. Hope you get this sorted out. ![]() Join The International Team: https://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/team/viewTeamInfo.do?teamId=CK9RP1BKX1 AMD TR2990WX @ PBO, 64GB Quad 3200MHz 14-17-17-17-1T, RX6900XT @ Stock AMD 3800X @ PBO AMD 2700X @ 4GHz |

Argh...my comp has broke down a bit too. Have to take care of it when I can. But I belive it is a software issue though...

Ok fixed my comp and installed the ATI 12.11 Beta 11 GPU drivers. Also updated to BOINC 7.0.42, adding the new app_config.xml file which should allow for better specifying how many instances of each app should be running simultaneously.
----------------------------------------Seem that I have got it working now finally. Also, YAY, passed 14 years of runtime! And...slowly closing in on 200 000 returned results...':) ![]() Join The International Team: https://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/team/viewTeamInfo.do?teamId=CK9RP1BKX1 AMD TR2990WX @ PBO, 64GB Quad 3200MHz 14-17-17-17-1T, RX6900XT @ Stock AMD 3800X @ PBO AMD 2700X @ 4GHz |

Good that the computer is up and running again Jack, even if it started working under very suspicious circumstances...
----------------------------------------Windows 8...I have yet to try that too. Too little time and too much work atm. Hoping for some time off for Christmas, though. Right now I am in the middle of moving to my new apartment and oh boy it is truly hell on earth I tell you folks! Not only did I fall from concrete stairs due to all this snow and slippery ice with temperatures at minus 20 degrees C the first day. Almost broke my back or something else, but now my whole body is aching :( I sure hope it is all worth it! Oh well, you know what? I have stopped getting surprised from things like that happening to me. It's more like "Darn that hurts! But it was bound to happen anyway so there's nothing to be surprised about and just continue if possible". I hope you folks have had a better weekend than I've had! Stay safe and keep crunching! (My crunching has come to a halt for some time due to the big move, but I'll be up and running before long I hope once I am finished with the move). ![]() Join The International Team: https://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/team/viewTeamInfo.do?teamId=CK9RP1BKX1 AMD TR2990WX @ PBO, 64GB Quad 3200MHz 14-17-17-17-1T, RX6900XT @ Stock AMD 3800X @ PBO AMD 2700X @ 4GHz |
