Welcome Rene once again! I believe I have some picture in my mind, remembering the photo in your sig now that I see it (perhaps since I too was crunching for The Edwardians for a while)... You have a decent machine! I run on the PC in my sig, but I have to rewrite some specs as they have changed and I now notice I do not have the GPU listed there (HD7970, might be good to have since we now have GPU computing)...will change now. Sorry about the loss! :( Thanks all. Well I may have a decent machine..but yours seems certainly top of the bill! Well done. ![]() |

Thanks Rene! :)
----------------------------------------Yes, I put some effort into building it. The important criteria was that it should be highly productive for WCG. So, wating to run as many threads as possible for WUs, there was no other real option but the Intel X79 platform and 3930K. Runing RAM-disk for maximum I/O-performance for WCG tasks (especially CEP2) so a quad-channel setup of RAM is also nice. Also, since I heard that the betas were about to start for HCC GPU I had to replace the old HD4850 with an HD7970. The quad channel RAM bandwidth should also help keeping the GPU fed with data. Love hardware and building PCs (expensive hobby), so everything is OC'd of course :3 Too bad we are temporarily out of work for HCC at the moment... (running HFCC during the GPU downtime - hoping to reach sapphire badge before the project ends). Crunching on...be well everyone! ![]() Join The International Team: https://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/team/viewTeamInfo.do?teamId=CK9RP1BKX1 AMD TR2990WX @ PBO, 64GB Quad 3200MHz 14-17-17-17-1T, RX6900XT @ Stock AMD 3800X @ PBO AMD 2700X @ 4GHz |

Yes too bad, no HCC GPU at the moment.
Allthough I got one running now. Must be a rerun one. Got also all kinds of high priority wu's lately. |

Yes Welcome Rene!
----------------------------------------I too recognize the picture, but not sure if it was from UD days... I was a Blabbermouth back then. I should post a pic, since I have since gotten old and grown a beard. Flodisar, not that I'm worried about team ranking, TEAM is the operative word, But congrats, with your new rig your about to pass me, (and I'm GREAT with that as it means we are crunching faster) I did throw in a little HD 7750 in a 2500K that had no video card. It's SLOW lol, but it was cheap. (Takes like a half hour for one while the comp i'm sitting at takes 2 hours for a cpu). The GTX 560 takes about 11 min or so for one. They are having a sale on the HD 7870, 1280 stream processors for 199 PLUS 40 dollar rebate (canadian, just slightly stronger than the US dollar at the moment). So for 159 plus tax, well under 200 with warranty, Picking one up today if theres one left. They have a sale on (Black Friday they are borowing the US excuse to shop) a I7 3930K is just 399 (out of stock) 2 8 gig sticks of RAM for 60 bucks (going to double my RAM in my gaming machine to 32 GIGS for fun, might need it some day) A case for 20 bucks (for DAD) and a Power supply 850M (is that different from 850W(att)? It's 109 plus 10 dollar rebate Anyway good day all ![]() |

Of course it is great to climb in the rankings but ultimately it is not the points that matter, but the fact that a drastically increased output means the equivalent for accelerating the important sscience work in the hopes of finding cures. Still, thanks for the congratulations, although I have not passed you yet...:)But WOW, you do have some upgrades in mind! What maker is that PSU? 850M probably is the model number, indicating it is an 850W PSU. 32Gigs are great for RAMDisk in case you want to run that and put browser temporary files there (really gives a snappy feel to browsing and does not decrease the life of SSD NAND cells in case you have on of those). A lot of things going on in my life at the moment, need a vacation but can't afford it right now :( Hopefully I might take some time off for Christmas and New year, but unsure at the moment. Crunching on with full steam ahead now that HCC GPU WUs are back in stock! :) Take care everyone! EDIT: Does it really take 30 minutes for an HD 7750 to crunch a wu? WOW, that's quite a difference in performace. My HD7970 does one of the new double-WUs in 3-4 minutes. But I am running 12 GPU WUs in parallel and then I am returning a WU about every 45 seconds on average. Running more than one GPU WU really does increase the output A LOT due to more efficient utilization. You should OC the Gpu core on that 7750 ;) Video RAM I heard will not affect these WUs though... ![]() Join The International Team: https://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/team/viewTeamInfo.do?teamId=CK9RP1BKX1 AMD TR2990WX @ PBO, 64GB Quad 3200MHz 14-17-17-17-1T, RX6900XT @ Stock AMD 3800X @ PBO AMD 2700X @ 4GHz [Edit 1 times, last edit by flodisar at Nov 25, 2012 9:29:19 PM] |

They were sold out of the video cards...
----------------------------------------Reg price is 269, I'll wait for Boxing day sales... (day after Christmas). Found out the 850M means modular, meaning (or so they said) that you dont have to plug all the cables in, if you dont need them all... nice feature. ![]() |

What maker is that PSU? 850M probably is the model number, indicating it is an 850W PSU. Coolermaster? ![]() Or perhaps Corsair TX850M? :) Modular is nice of course since yes, you only need the cables you really need. Gives better airflow and less clutter. However, if it is the Corsair TX850M PSU...it is 80+ certified but only to Bronze level. 80+ silver, gold and ultimately platina are more efficient (in practice meaning less power consumption at socket, smaller electricity bills, should generate less heat at in theory thereby less noise). And the higher you go (silver, gold, platina), the more high-quality components you get (since they must be able to reach that level of efficiency for the corresponding certification), and the more expensive the PSUs also get though. Still, for a 24/7 cruncher I suppose it may be worth it. Say you have a PSU with 85% efficiency at 50% load (bronze level). Your components need 400W, meaning at the socket you get a reading of 470W. The same scenario but with a platinum PSU (94% efficiency at 50% load) you get 425W at the socket. So 45W difference. During a day that is 1.08kWh. For a year of crunching it is almost 400kW...
