Good morning MOT ! Looking at AMD server cpu's and it appears they make some monster processors and quite a bit less then Intel in cost. Not sure how function compairs?

Good Morning MOT and potential MOT members. coffee coffee coffee Beautiful, Cool morning here.

Here we are again with confusion about what is best to buy. My latest pick is:

Intel Core i7-950 3.06GHz 130W Quad-Core Desktop Processor
Antec EarthWatts Green EA-430D Green 430W Continuous Power Supply
COOLER MASTER HAF 932 Black RC-932-KWN3 Black Computer Case with Side window With Side Panel Window
Western Digital Caviar Green 1TB 3.5" SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive
GIGABYTE GA-X58A-UD3R ATX Intel Motherboard
COOLER MASTER Intel Core i7 compatible V8 RR-UV8-XBU1-GP 120mm Rifle CPU Cooler
OCZ Gold 6GB (3 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Low Voltage Desktop Memory

Overdoing it a bit with that 1TB drive. I plan to use my portable DVD drive to install the opsys and hook the machine up to one of the connectors of my 4x KVM switch. Also need to add a minimalist video card.

Man, I wish WCG would send out newsletters more often! We have pramodp back in our active ranks again! Would love to hear from them and imdioxin both! Looks like we're at least two out of three on this last newsletter!

Yes. I am back :)

quick question : I have 6 units in pending validation . How do I make them valid and count it towards the point and rank ?

Great to see you back. smile smile In answer to your question:

Quick answer: Nothing you can do but wait. straight face
Longer (generalized) answer: WCG sends out multiple copies of each work unit*. When the results come back in after processing, they (the results) are comparied. If they are the same, then the work units are "validated" and credit (points) given. If the results are not the same, then additional copies of the work units are sent out to different computers and when the results come back in from those, the comparisons are made again and credit granted to the ones that give the same results. Now there are exceptions to this but that is the general rule.

I understand there is an exception with the Clean Water Project wherein credit is granted as soon as the WU is returned (well within 12 hours or so).

I hope this answer is clear. Thank You for contributing to the World Community Grid and for being a member of MOT. smile

Edit: * This is to prevent a computer, that is malfunctioning for some reason, from providing inaccurate results and that being fed back to the scientisits.

Ne too! Good to have you back and especially to hear from you here. I hope we hear from you more!! RT's answer is a good one. Since you're looking at your Results Status page, you might find this link helpful too: BOINC: Results Status page - What does xyz status mean? You may want to check out some of the other links in there as well such as the Minimun Quorum one. Let us know if you have more questions smile
