Re: Other Unix distributions that work?

Brink, is there a reason to prefer the 64-bit Ubuntu over 32-bit if you only have 2 or 3GB RAM to allocate to it?

Using 10.10 32-bit installed in VirtualBox w/ 2.5GB of mem allocated to it. Seems kinda slow though (the host is a MacBook Core i5 2.53GHz w/ 8GB physical memory).

thanks for any tips,
-jeff

If you have 3.5GB of ram or less go with the 32bit. If you have over 4GB ram you have a couple of options. 1 Download/install ubuntu 10.10 64 bit or try option #2 on http://www.cyberciti.biz/faq/ubuntu-linux-4gb-ram-limitation-solution/

Hope this helps

Re: Other Unix distributions that work?

Based on the totally unidentified "stable" environment that CEP2 will work in, I'm going to refrain from changing anything at all to my Ubuntu 10.04 LTS install, kernel 2.6.32.25 on ext4 filesystem and advanced graphics features of interface switch off (GNOME) and continue to crunch this science on 2 of 4 cores (manual managed). To follow the other thread, hopeful that test of Debian by RaymondFO will turn out positively.

Why are you running a 9.10 kernel on a 10.04 install? Just curious.

I don't know if its available on vmware player but I have that on vmware workstation.

Anyways, If you can't find it and you got green on the network icon, maybe after the upgrade the vm network driver got lost. Try re-installing the driver. Or you can read this KB from vmware

Vm player is so limited, why not download the vm server? its free - just have to register to download.
