Linux Problem [RESOLVED]

I installed Ubuntu in Virtual Box and Boinc 6.10.17 as service - its old version but dont know how to upgrade it
and all that I get is
Tue 03 Aug 2010 11:03:25 AM EEST World Community Grid Requesting new tasks
Tue 03 Aug 2010 11:03:52 AM EEST World Community Grid Scheduler request completed: got 1 new tasks
Tue 03 Aug 2010 11:03:52 AM EEST World Community Grid Message from server: Resent lost result nq603_00031_14
Tue 03 Aug 2010 11:03:52 AM EEST World Community Grid [error] App version has unsupported platform i686-pc-linux-gnu
Tue 03 Aug 2010 11:03:52 AM EEST World Community Grid [error] No application found for task: i686-pc-linux-gnu 617 ; discarding

no work is done at all by the machine
before that I installed the latest boinc though not as service and it was returning the same type of error
please advize me on what should be done

I nearly did it the same way, but i use ubuntu 10.04 as 32 bit. I start boinc manually by the boot up manager. It works fine, even when starting boinc as service. Perhaps u should try ubuntu 32 bit. So check out your 64-bit services etc. I guess ubuntu 64 bit in a virtual box maybe a bit experimental, even while I don“t know the details of your PC.

my machine is AMD Phenom 2 x4 and that is why I tried 64bit Ubuntu didnt know its going to be a problem
but its ok now thank you

It is a very small problem, and easy to fix.
Not worth downgrading a 64-bit machine to a 32-bit operating system.
