My BOINC level is 6.10.56 and I will those FAQs. I had read that 100% CPU usage could result in the Intel processor overheating and it would be better to reduce the usage to a lower value - it was not clear if this is a real problem. I also did not have "Use GPU while computer is in use" selected. I am changing my preferences to be as described in the "BOINC: CPU Throttling using client or website preferences". There are any number of free CPU temperature monitors on the web. Just search Google for that term. There are only a few projects that can use the GPU and I don't know if any belong to WCG, so it shouldn't matter. I'm a little uncertain what is a considered a safe CPU temp for long term reliability but my old CPU used to go to low 60's Celsius in summer without air conditioning. The cooling question is much more important for laptops than for desktops. |

Low 60's is perfectly fine, 70's too, even when it's too hot to touch. Keeping systems dust free easily makes 5-10C difference and has fans run slower too.
----------------------------------------The number one tool for laptops on Windows is TThrottle written for BOINC. Just set a ceiling temp and it will make BOINC run slower if it goes above... smoothly.
