Hi Dave,
----------------------------------------It is a known "feature" (ie not a bug) of the software. It accumulates the points as a decimal number and then rounds the figure. It would appear that the rounding is done at different points in the software and you will always see a slight difference between the online statistics and what is reported on your system by the agent. The value "total points accumulated" should be an integer always as each result produces an integer value of points. There is only one event where rounding occurs and that's when the integer number of points are awarded for a result. Note: the "," in my message is the US divider for 3-digit groups of large numbers so actually the two numbers I gave were 147006 and 147008. I should have omitted the "," to avoid confusion as the softaware and website use "," and "." as delimiter (and as digit sign, respectively) inconsitently -- sometimes the US notation is used, sometimes the European. But my example only gives integer numbers, no rounding. To clarify: What happens is: client sends result, points are calculated, result-server adds points to total, result-server sends new work unit to client and also sends current total. The client doesn't calculate the total -- it is unable to do so as it doesn't know about results sent by the user's other clients since it visited the server the last time! So still the result the result-server sent to my client differs by 2 points from the total that the statistics-server shows online. That clearly is a bug and it's impossible that it's caused by rounding -- results sent back to a server always produce "full" (whole, integer) points. You can say "don't care about 2 points" but the difference for other people might be bigger. Or are these 2 points some sort of tax sent to IBM teams? Best regards, Stefan. Stefan --
In a post in the thread, http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread?thread=766, World Community Grid Tech, knreed stated the following: There is not a way to get the agent and website back in sync. Fundementally the problem is that points are original calculated as decimal numbers by the UD Grid software and they are stored as integers for the website. As such, rounding errors occur. The best that you can hope for is that rounding will go the other way and it will even out. Sorry I can't offer you better then that. knreed So, it would appear that the rounding is happening due to the format the data are stored (would declared data format be a better way to describe this?). Your friend and team mate, |

Your friend and team mate, Hey DaveYou know, I just remembered reading about that a while back I guess my memory is not what it used to be |

Dtype --
It was nice to wake up and see that you had posted (even if it was a rather short posting -- LOL). We have missed you around here for a few days. I figure you were out rounding up more of your friends for the WCG. Your friend and team mate, |
