Re: New BETA Linux Test

If you're in the baby-sitting mood like I've been, just highlight and keep hitting "Retry Now" in the Transfers tab. You probably already know that, but I've found that like getting DDD2 WU's, it's a hit or miss thing. I was just trying to get rid of a couple Betas for about 30 mins too, then they just magically disappeared. Anyone else know where the retry interval settings are?

Re: New BETA Linux Test

100 tries within a timeframe [can't remember what it was] will cause the upload fail to be deemed permanent.

There's an Start Here FAQ that lists out the steps to get things going again [switching the Activity Menu Network activity to Off, wait a bit and then switch it on again is one of them], if it's not a server side issue that can be invoked if thousands keep hammering update and retry... which is why the back offs are incremental and random as discussed here http://boinc-wiki.info/Scheduling_Server_Timing_and_Retry_Policies (may not be fully current)

edit: exponential backoff mechanism http://boinc-wiki.info/Exponential_Back-Off (may not be current either)

I don't run any graphical interface at all to boinc. I guess I should look up what ludicrously tortured syntax they use for that in boinc_cmd.

Re: New BETA Linux Test

For anyone who is having issues transferring files or other issues...Please take a look at this link and turn on these options:

http://boinc.berkeley.edu/wiki/Client_configuration

http_debug
http_xfer_debug
file_xfer_debug
work_fetch_debug

This will create more logging in the messages tab of your agent. Once you add these lines, you'll need to restart the boinc agent. Please copy what you see into the forums or send to support@worldcommunitygrid.org. Forums are probably quicker since it is near a weekend.

Thanks,

Thanks!

The Mac and Windows platforms will come at a later date. We are focusing on Linux at the moment due to the large data volumes. I do not have a firm 'later date' but we do plan on having all 3 platforms for this project.

Thanks. Most useful. The standard log entry says nothing specific, but these make it obvious what's happening.

I have an http_proxy set in my environment. There's never been an issue before, but the size of these break Squid.

Re: New BETA Linux Test

Everything transfers...eventually. I usually get three fails in a row either doing updates or uploading files. I see no errors with downloads.

The most common one recently is SSL connect error.

I'm afraid I won't be much help with specifics. I tried editing my client_state.xml yesterday to adjust the bandwidth and found out that boinc is the owner of the files and it won't let me modify them. I have soooo much to learn about Linux sad

Get to a terminal window, cd to your data directory, and type
 sudo gedit client_state.xml<enter>
If prompted, enter your password and you should be able to edit and save the file. After that's done, restart boinc or reboot.

Re: New BETA Linux Test

KWSN, Feel free to ask any linux question you have...others in here may have experienced it. But as piroque mentioned if you open a terminal and type in that command, you'll be able to edit the file.
