Re: New BETA Linux Test

On some machines, I have a 2GB partition for WCG. Now the Beta's demanding even more space than before ...
"Beta - The Clean Energy Project - Phase 2 needs 467.36MB more disk space. You currently have 1580.64 MB available and it needs 2048.00 MB."

Re: New BETA Linux Test

That is kind of a logical consequence of the previous CEP2 beta where a limit of 1.5GB caused results to exceed the allowed disk restriction... my quad having one failing at 1622MB.

Re: New BETA Linux Test

One time had the "maintenance" message but on second cycle the uploads finished. The first 4 ran in 1:57 to 4 hours with upload files of 11-13MB. Now a second set of 4 is running... will go shut eye now so will peruse log tomorrow for oddities.

Re: New BETA Linux Test

Absolutely. Quite understandable. Just hadn't planned for it, as we don't get told the restrictions in advance. Now that I've expanded the WCG file system on that machine, it's picked up a beta.

Beta - The Clean Energy Project - Phase 2 requires 128.00 kbps download bandwidth. Your computer has been measured at 97.45 kbps.

First question to anyone is how to have boinc "retest" itself. It must have gotten this lowly number while other systems were downloading. I've tried update, network communication, restarting the manager, changing prefs, even just restarted the system, but it's holding to that number.

I had one machine have that issue too. Not sure why, as I'm on 1.5Mb ADSL. The easiest way around it is to stop boinc, edit client_state.xml (bwdown in net_stats) to a reasonable figure, then restart boinc.

Re: New BETA Linux Test

Thanks Kremmen, it worked. I bow to your superior knowledge. I think it tanked my rate when I was downloading DDD2's on 6 systems at once and haven't DL'd anything since. Now I'm getting the message I expected to find on an win box regarding this beta. smile

Re: New BETA Linux Test

Uplinger,
just a question that appear be relevant for me by now.

When CEP2 project be launched, it will require at least 128 kbps of download bandwidth as a basic requirement to qualify to receive WU's to be processed ?

Until know my best speed reached today was 123.16 kbps (according the log message in my BOINC clients in the last hours) and until now I don't got yet any Beta from this test probably due it.

I'm just trying antecipate any action that I will need take with my bandwidth provider right now, to avoid any issue like that hapenned during the AC@H project times related with upload/download speeds.

Thank you in advance for any information to clarify it. thinking peace coffee

Re: New BETA Linux Test

GIBA, unfortunately at this time I do not know the final answer to this question. I believe as a group we decided to put some "limitations" on the bandwidth to help from slowing down members internet connection for long periods of time. A 56k modem ( I know, I know you have something better ) would take about 4 hours to upload the results for one work unit. Not to mention the 8 hours to download the initial files required. And that is using the full speed of the modem...

But as you can tell by my quotations above, the check for your bandwidth speed is on the local agent as Kremmen stated. I think if you change the bandwidth to something 100 times larger than what is stated, you'll be able to download work multiple times without having to reset this average. If you are using linux...you could set up a cron job that sets this value to a default value after you stop the agent, then restart it once the value is in place.

I will check with the other tech guys tomorrow if the bandwidth limit is going to stay for production as well.

I hope that my post did not confuse you any, but if it did feel free to ask for clarification.

Thanks,
-Uplinger

Re: New BETA Linux Test - CEP2 version 6.19

Watching some downloads, saw one that got to 814KB for the initial 100MB science file... thus from here it appears that on a per-link basis there's loads of bandwidth in store.

OF the first 8 in the range of 1.57 - 4.75 hours, several validated passing though all 16 jobs. One 1 had the earlier reported early exit RC = 0x100, and as in the previous test 6.17, it did go through to log all 16 jobs and end normal. It now sits in Pending Validation.
