Uplinger, just a small observation. This new test wasn't mentioned in the Beta announcements section. Some people may have set a watch on that section in the forum software so they get advised of beta unit availability without having to live on the forums to find out.

After misleading the bandwidth, I got 2 CEP2 Beta's on the Linux part of my P8400 laptop running at 2.26GHz.
----------------------------------------The download of the 100MB file lasted 2min 25sec partial concurrently with the zips. They are running now 1hr and 40 min at 14% progress. Checkpoints so far after 2 minutes, 6 minutes, 1hr30min, 1hr40min. After restarting the Boinc client the tasks restarted fine from the last checkpoint. I'm getting upload errors. So many failed retries that it's backed off to next try in over 41 mins. The BETA_A.19.C16H10S2Se.1.2.set1d06_0_[0-3] files apparently uploaded successfully, and then:

I have 2 Betas on one of my systems.
They were about 12% or more complete. After short electricity outage they dropped to 2% complete. LAIM off and computing on batteries was also off (changed to on now). |

GIBA, unfortunately at this time I do not know the final answer to this question. I believe as a group we decided to put some "limitations" on the bandwidth to help from slowing down members internet connection for long periods of time. A 56k modem ( I know, I know you have something better ) would take about 4 hours to upload the results for one work unit. Not to mention the 8 hours to download the initial files required. And that is using the full speed of the modem... But as you can tell by my quotations above, the check for your bandwidth speed is on the local agent as Kremmen stated. I think if you change the bandwidth to something 100 times larger than what is stated, you'll be able to download work multiple times without having to reset this average. If you are using linux...you could set up a cron job that sets this value to a default value after you stop the agent, then restart it once the value is in place. I will check with the other tech guys tomorrow if the bandwidth limit is going to stay for production as well. I hope that my post did not confuse you any, but if it did feel free to ask for clarification. Thanks, -Uplinger That's ok. Anyway, I will talk with my band provider to increase my download and upload speeds, once appear reach very small values sometimes. Thank you for your prompt answer.
Cheers ! GIB@

If the below wingman reads this, then (s)he's advised to do some OS/HW checking. My copy fully executed the 16 job segments. The 2 went inconclusive though so the repair job will pass judgment. :D

Returned my first two Beta's. The runtimes were about the half of original estimated.

This version gives me a lot of "Result '(result)' exited with zero status but no 'finished' file". Previous beta was good. I have reset the project but still no go.
----------------------------------------My setup: Fedora 13 Live on USB stick. BOINC 6.10.56 from Berkeley. (not using yum to install) DataDIR is on localdisk NTFS partition - one thing I notice is that mount-ntfs is running at 100%. - no cpu usage up until 5% per BoincTask - they are stuck at 5-8% and will cycle back to 0 once the error above occured. |

25-Jun-2010 18:49:17 [World Community Grid] Temporarily failed upload of BETA_A.19.C16H10S2Se.1.2.set1d06_0_4: http error That one's now been stalled for 10 hours. Another machine has hit the same problem. (... which, of course, means they can't get any more betas, because it can't get rid of this one.) Are these ever going to upload? Is there anything I can do to get them to retry more often? (Out at 2 hrs per retry now.) [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Jun 25, 2010 8:11:44 PM] |
