We really seem to be in a mood to tease our existing points record. We sure got close yeaterday. The outage at the UTC end of the day on Friday probably influenced that a bit too. Still, it would seem we are on the verge of a new record. |

I wish I could get one of the new faster processor atoms. My n270 is not a speedster. Still, it is fine for FreeHAL provided I limit it to 8 WU's (otherwise video gets choppy). Darth was right on. There's no such thing as a cheap ultramobile. From what I recall, the X-series laptops from Lenovo that Darth mentioned are REAL nice in terms of ultramobile. They're extremely light in weight and the battery life could last 8-9 hours (my memory is spotty on whether they did that with two batteries or just one). The ones I looked at before were VERY sweet machines for a laptop but you would definitely be paying LOTS for one. Hard to justify as just a mobile cruncher if you're not independently wealthy! Netbooks strike me as nothing more than a way to milk the market for folks who want something more than a smartphone without springing for a laptop. There's probably a very small niche that netbooks satisfy that they are worthwhile for but anything else is a poor compromise. At this point, I suspect you may well be best of just waiting for now. You could end up with a job that has you on the go all the time. In that case, springing for the pricey ultramobile might be justifiable, especially if you end up where there's a robust wi-max. If you end up with something of a more typical job that has you in an office for large chunks of time, you may not need anything mobile at all. Plus, you may get something of a choice in hardware depending on the job too. |

The word is that HFCC is only going to be inactive for a while. If you haven't seen it, details are at the top of this thread. - D Darth, thanks for pointing this out. For those close to the next badge level, this could be the chance to get it. |

Keithhenry, Thanks, and I really like how interactive this team is. Suspect I will hang around for a long while. Thanks for making me feel welcome. Judson Well, I for one am really glad to have you here (yea, I say that to every member but it's still true! ). I'm always open to suggestions and ideas (well, pretty well for an old fart like me who does tend to like his routine). As with any member, I love to see folks get active here and get to know the team. We're not the quiet, staid, boring kind! ![]() |

Before I forget (again), I need a volunteer to capture the team data for me while I'm away. We're taking our daughter to Orlando for a week at the Disney parks. We'll be leaving on the 31st and returning on the 7th (or 8th possibly). It a matter of going to this url:
----------------------------------------http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/team/viewTe...amp;numRecordsPerPage=400 and doing a copy of the five columns of data below these headings: Member Name Status Total Run Time Points Generated Results Returned and pasting that into a txt file (via Notepad is easiest). If you can do this starting on the 31st thru the 7th, I'd much appreciate it. I will be able to post the stats for each day with this when I return. |

Another excellent day! We seem to be turning in more 500K+ days than 500K- days lately, and 42 members returning a result is outstanding. Also, we are now averaging just over 450,000 points a day.
---------------------------------------- That's up considerably from the start of the year. Just under 480,000 a day is where we want to end the year. |
