Re: Okay, I confez, I'm not a Linux Adapt.

Maybe Falconet already knows this one... Laptop Mode Tools, in amongst helping to extend battery life. http://linux.softpedia.com/blog/increase-your...p-mode-tools-486278.shtml

BTW, noticed on Windows that Softpedia has as bad a habit as Adobe, Avast and many more to package gunkware with the software you download from them. Now everytime upgrading Adobe Reader, get McAfee Scan, and no way to untick... complete install, then uninstall McAfee. frustrated

Re: Okay, I confez, I'm not a Linux Adapt.

For next time needing to boot into 14.04, to upgrade to 14.04.03. As was previously written, it has kernel 3.19.0 with it. Long term support!

http://news.softpedia.com/news/ubuntu-14-04-3...s-what-s-new-488702.shtml

Next Trusty Tahr upgrade is planned for next February and that surely will have the 4.n kernel. [well how sure comes in gradients... the wiki has not been updated yet for the 14.04.4 and 14.04.5 scheduled releases ;]

Hibernating setup instructions for Ubuntu 14.04 LTS: http://ubuntuhandbook.org/index.php/2014/04/enable-hibernate-ubuntu-14-04/

The effect is awesome [who does not want to crunch loss-less ;]. [vot] The impact on Windows 10 was actually mind-blowing, to me! Opposed to the whole search-indexing cycle e.g. starting from scratch and getting an efficiency of just 70% for hours on end, only computing OET1, upon coming out of hibernation, all apps open instantly, the start menu pops up promptly, even the action center has a modicum of not-too-much-delay, AND, crunching is almost 99% from resume, without a second of computing loss, albeit, Windows for AD Vina app projects is on that platform takes at least twice as long. [/vot]

Re: Okay, I confez, I'm not a Linux Adapt.

Update to the February kernel updates to the various past Ubuntu versions, It looks like 4.2.0.27 is coming to the last LTS 14.04 [though elsewhere is was suggested to be 4.2.6 as a 'must' update: http://news.softpedia.com/news/canonical-rele...-ubuntu-oses-499786.shtml

February 16 was the scheduled date to go into the pipe (not seeing it yet).

As I wrote elsewhere, I'll take the opportunity to then re-test running CEP2 on the Linux running on a 10 year old Q6600, and still doing several sciences [non-hyperthreaded], faster at 1600MHZ than the 3770K at 2.1Ghz [hyperthreaded]. Supposedly the file/disk i/o handling received major improvements over 3.16 which the machine is now on.

Fingers crossed.

Re: Okay, I confez, I'm not a Linux Adapt.

Cant's wait until it's April... 2018! Ubuntu will become pure / unpatched Debian based http://linux.softpedia.com/blog/ubuntu-18-04-...repositories-500309.shtml

As the article ends "If Martin Pitt and his team of skillful developers manage to fully sync the repositories with upstream, without the need for hacks and workarounds, Ubuntu 18.04 LTS will become the greatest release ever made."

Re: Okay, I confez, I'm not a Linux Adapt.

I've been running the 4.2 kernel on my MATE 14.04 for a while now.

All good.

Turning your Ubuntu into a speed-daemon when Ubiquity 16.04 LTS comes around [or sooner :O]: http://freedompenguin.com/articles/how-to/how-to-optimize-ubuntu-for-speed/

Re: Okay, I confez, I'm not a Linux Adapt.

Upgraded from 15.10 to 16.04 yesterday. Had to reinstall the GPU drivers, but that is fairly normal for a distribution upgrade. Everything seems to be working fine. All CPU and GPU tasks processed since the upgrade are either valid or pending validation.
