lmsensors is in the Synaptic repository and the base sensors showing is a feature extension [indicator] of Gnome/Unity. The work is in the fanspeed control part. Would think that lmsensors is in mint too... a 5 second Google search: http://www.linux-archive.org/ubuntu-user/5983...peratures-lm-sensors.html

I am just about finished converting my two BOINC machines (AMD Phenom II X4 and AMD Phenom II X 6) to Linux Mint 64. Once I compared the W7 64 and Linux results for BOINC projects, there was no option.

Sek, since dropping number of threads to 8 out of 12, less than 2 minutes lost. Figuring it's the hard drive. Thinking of cloning to another disc using clonezilla. Just don't know if boinc would crash. Am presuming not. Anyone ever clone before under Linux? I do know it works in OSX as have done it before using Super duper. Never used clonezilla before though.

I've used it and it works great. I used it on my Mint Linux box to move my spindle drive to ssd. Worked like a charm. Parted Magic boot cd has clonezilla on it and other useful utilities. Don't leave home without it.

Some might like it, who've stuck to using Nautilus as their main file browser: http://iloveubuntu.net/enrich-your-nautilus-numerous-actions-oneiric-ocelot Enjoy --//-- (Now need to find something that offers a bit more on right click for compression into various main archives such as rar, zip, 7z ... the hunt continues :) Took a little digging, installing various compression utilities from Ubuntu software center and adding some Nautilus action extensions, and, figuring out how to screenshot the evidence with Shutter, but suddenly, there it was: The right click menu with the compress line: ![]() and the frame and dropdown list showing 17 formats to zip something up and real fast test what gives the best result for any given set of files: ![]() Never managed to get anything resembling to work in Windows explorer and to top it up, depending on file selection it's even able to handle the MS .cab format. Linux Rulez, today. --//-- |

Seeing in the Synaptic upgrade list a new kernel 3.0.0-14.16. Applied, and switched BOINC from checkpoint writing at 900 seconds interval, at most, to 60 seconds, then let the CEP2's finish and have them be replaced by the short check-pointing Clean Water. This current CEP2 job has been working on job 3 (#2) for the last 5.25 hours:

Yesterday at Webupd8 saw a little article on a utility to enable Mac like "natural scrolling" in Gnome, so fetched it and activated it and it took about 15 seconds to get used to the reverse scrolling [from what we're used to], including mouse-wheel. Then went to look on the intertube what the hoohah was about. Seems that Mac users are more stuck to their ways than Linux users ;P
----------------------------------------http://articles.businessinsider.com/2011-07-2..._1_fingers-content-screen I'll keep it till it bores or annoys (not likely)... it does feel "natural". :O --//-- edit: And oh, there's a quick switch button on the panel bar. :D [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Dec 13, 2011 8:28:05 AM] |

Hi Sek,
----------------------------------------Have you looked at linux mint debian edition at all? or linux mint 12? I really dont like the ubuntu unity interface, great for tablets not good for crunchers. I'm going to run out my ubuntu WU's and run mint debian for a while see how that goes... Watch this space I guess.. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Nope, I asked myself for reports here ... just been reading the positive reports, but given the achieved crunching efficiency on my present Ubuntu setup and liking the minimalistic GNOME 3.3 I'm on, those kernels don't change, only the fronts and their CPU time drawing, no reason to waste cycles on trying yet another version.
--//-- P.S. Gnome I use which has a nice little docky extension that sits right side over the scroll bar, never missing to hit it when I want. Dislike that Unity mousing to left edge wanting to do something with the Firefox sidebar and there the launcher pops up again. (There's a Unity applet that moves the launcher to bottom now, which I might give a try to see if the experience improves). As yet not been able to replicate my CPU/MEM/Fan indicators in Gnome that I have in Unity. |
