The beta ran very well for both type B and type C work units. This version is going to be updated in production for these types of DDD2 work.
Also, we are working with the researchers to get new production work units. Could be a few more days before some are released. Thanks for your participation and patience. -Uplinger |

If two people really got 25% of your Beta it's time to change your distribution method. Yes, that seems likely to exhaustively test a very small subset of the available machine types.A couple of notes: num_hosts num_results num_users num_results These numbers merge stats from a couple of the last beta tests. We are getting results from a number of different computers. We are looking to see how we can reduce situations where one host downloads many beta results. |

We are looking to see how we can reduce situations where one host downloads many beta results. One potential method, would be to not allow "intermittent only" selections to be made (which, of course, includes the Beta project) - but to force at least 1 of the "active" projects to also be selected. This would then "fill everyone's buffer" with a mix of intermittent/active projects and stop the hoovering up of WU's. Edit : although it was in my mind that DDDT2 was/is an intermittent project, it's not down officially as one - and thus, that last comment is incorrect [Edit 1 times, last edit by gb009761 at Mar 22, 2010 8:37:49 PM] |

We are going to change the way beta works so that any given computer can only have as many beta results assigned at a time as processor cores that it has. This will allow for testing the behavior when multiple workunits from the project are running concurrently running work but it will also help ensure that a wider group of machines are tested.

Sounds like an excellent plan....

Intersting, Seems like an obvious want in terms of getting the betas spread around to more machines. I assumed that it was not possible since it was not working that way all this time. I have alwasy tried to get a beta per machine (not core) but the way the clients works it is hard to prevents more than that from getting download.

Thanks Kevin - that seems like a perfect solution as it's got so many benefits going for it. 1) Getting as many WU's tested by different platforms as possible, 2) Getting Beta WU's returned ASAP, 3) Preventing crunchers from 'hoovering' up Beta WU's, and 4) Giving everyone a far better chance of participating in Beta testing Like jasm580, I assumed that it wasn't possible - as it hadn't already been implemented. |

I don't know how much the other BOINC projects use the 'beta' capabilities of the software. As a result, I don't think much development occurs with it.
