Re: What does your nickname mean here at WCG

When I started in the distributed computing hobby, it was with United Devices, back in April 2001. I didn't wanted to use my real name so I started looking for some nicknames (mainly characters from movies/books/shows I like). I tried some very common names like Darth Vader but they were already taken. So I thought of music, and being U2 one of my favorite artist I went for bono. No luck there either, and since I was already annoyed, I tried bono_vox (Bono Vox, latin for Good Voice, is the original Paul Hewson's nickname, later shortened to just Bono). Of course that thing was available, so after another round of already taken nicknames I finally settled for bono_vox. Then when I started in WCG I used the same nick.

So long story short, I really like U2 and I have little creativity for nicknames cool

Re: What does your nickname mean here at WCG

JP I am so glad that you are safe. I forgot that you lived several thousand miles south of me.

As for NixChix, it is from Nick's Chicks (you probably guessed that). It is the name of my children's pretend musical group (my son Nick and his 3 sisters).

I first used NixChix at the old UD grid.org. I had to pick something. I had recently used "NixChix dad" on some other system, but that was too long and awkward. When I came to WCG after I found the doors locked at UD I of course used the same name as did many other refugees.

Before that, I had always had used the name that my former coworkers gave me 20 years ago, Batman, based on my last name, but I find that batman is always already used by someone else before me. I think it was already taken at UD. (Otherwise you would know me by that name and I would be telling you that story instead biggrin) The last time I was able to use that Batman was when I joined SETI in 2000.

Cheers coffee

The name KerSamson is the combination of the names Kereon (my company) and Samson (my Family name). It represents my double engagement on the private and business level as well.
For more information see: www.kereon.ch/grid.

My nickname, kateiacy, comes from my real nickname (Kate) and the fact that I live in the Iowa City area of Iowa.

Re: What does your nickname mean here at WCG

Hypernova is a super supernova. A supernova is the death of a star by a gigantic explosion.
Since I was a kid, I have been very much interested in the universe around us, sun and planets, astronomy, astrophysics, and cosmology. After finishing high school I hesitated a lot and finally went to do electrical engineering, computer science and robotics, but the universe and beyond, remains an important hobby for me.
The picture of the Hypernova or Super-Supernova that you have in my signature is one of the most interesting phenomenons regarding the star Eta Carinae which is a hundred or more times more massive than our Sun. shock Today it is not all clear what has happened or will happen to this star. But if it has not exploded already (light takes 8'000 years to come to us) it has the potential to blow as one of the most powerful supernovas in our galaxy.

Well, in '92 my roomate was Jon, landlady's son was Jon, roomates other friend was John, so I said, I'm taking Jack. More from C.S. Lewis than JFK. Stuck with me ever since. (007 should be obvious, but I like the bond movies as well)
