Re: What does your nickname mean here at WCG

Well, flodisar is not a real word but still in the end means "hippos". Hard to explain but it has to do with how the swedish word for hippopotamus, that is flodhäst is constructed. You see that it is constructed from the word "flod - that is river" and "häst - that is horse", so in Swedish hippos are riverhorses, yes.

So, "flodisar" contains the first word "flod - river" and the remaining "isar" simply adds plural to the first word, but it is still not meaning "many rivers", but instead in a cute way it can mean hippos even though there is no such real word.

Yeah I know it's confusing, even for Swedes it is :) because flodisar can also mean riverices and yes it is a mess tongue

So, the ultimate question remains: Why? Well.....I like hippos biggrin and I liked them since I was very young and that's when I accidentally invented that word.

Well, Damir in slovakian means "to give peace". In Arab means "conscience". Take your pick. I think both are related in meaning 'cos if your conscience is not peaceful, you must have been doing something that it did not give you peace.

Re: What does your nickname mean here at WCG

Interesting thread, and very funny !

Well, in my case, Giba is one of the nicknames frequently associated with my real name (that is Gilberto), in the Portuguese language used in Brazil, and maybe in Portugal and others Portuguese speakers countries too.

The others nicks are called Gil and Beto, both very populars, and due it becames real names commonly used to registered some new born men (mainly sons of fathers called Gilberto !).

Since my childhood all of my family, friends, and coleagues, ever refer to me as Giba ! And obviously I adopted it !

Additionally, despite Giba be the less frequent form to call Gilberto, is considered the most polite, educated and kindness.

A curiosity about it is that with the pass of time, after many years working for IBM and HP, and with the advent of internet and mobile communications, and its neologisms usages, I adopted the form Gib@ to sign some kind of informal contacts, like personal e-mails, short message and chats.

In fact, my first nickname in WCG was Gib@, changed few time after to the actual Giba. I have these two accounts registered here ! And for years now my signature here is Gib@...

So, nowadays I have two nicks: Giba and Gib@

Up to you call me using anyone ! wink biggrin cool peace coffee

Cheers ! GIB@ peace coffee

brinktastee = Brink Tastee
Not my real name but it kind of sounds like my real name.
23 years ago (or so) a bunch of my friends and I went on a skiing trip. Well at night in the cottage we rented there was a lot of "adult beverages" flowing and one of my friends tried to say my name with a few too many under his belt and what came out was Brink Tastee. Everyone busted out laughing and it has stayed with me ever since.

I thought maybe it had something to do with the Tastee Bakery in St. Paul smile

My buddies started signing me up for junk mail with that name. So they chose the spelling. raised eyebrow
I'm sure the bakery is where they got the spelling from...
