With the DDDT2 [Monster] A Type experience down the buckle, I'd not mind for HCMD2 to be matched with others that do not care too much about how long HCMD2 would run. WCG techs surely know how much total time is needed on average to get through the Parent/Child/Grandchild cycle to be able to cut these jobs to ~24 hour size or less. In the knowledge that there would be zero position wastage I'd be more than happy to engage, which I anyway do for a substantial part of total available crunching time.
----------------------------------------Thus, no long contemplation. Saying no would not make 1 iota of difference so those have zero need to vote here. Saying yes giving signal to the techs to consider some time to invest in this. Say Aye to give us that project profile option for HCMD2 :D

Sounds like a great idea to me. I would take my computers off hyper-threading mode for this project to help speed the process along.

I'll have a 4+GHz 6 core up in a week or so that I'll commit to this..

Sek, if you remember from the beta for this project. We encountered work units that went well over 100 hours when the estimation scripts expected them to only go for 8 hours. So, if we were to cut some up for 24 hours, they could then go for 300+ hours. Also, you just mention 24 hour work units, what would be the 60% split time in your proposed modification?
Also, I don't believe we can implement this solution of two different work units at this time. Longer work units for 24/7 machines for example. But it is good to talk about possible improvements. This does not mean it will get implemented, other items generally get more priority, like project releases. -Uplinger |

-Uplinger, no just let it rip, no cut-off, and people getting nervous, the idea being that you would be the master of not let in turn into CPDN type excursions. Think you have now 10 months of stats to know how to tune the chopper on this :D
----------------------------------------btb, the 100+ hour monsters, were these from your observations slow or fast machines? You could set sort of a minimum CPU spec, based on device history you readily have. New machines would be initially tested get the standard, then after 5 or 10 the full wacksters.

A shame WCG isn't a multi-threaded app.. There would be some incredible possibilities if it was.. |
